[Though this post by E. Flowers appears first in this thread, that is only because it is the first post that was moved out of tim's NDE's thread. The move was performed at tim's request: he prefers that his original thread consist solely in a compendium of NDE accounts, and that commentary on those accounts (and related discussion) occur in this thread. --Laird]

[To eliminate confusion: E. Flowers was responding below to tim's first post in the original thread --Laird]

Tim, do you know if he was awake sometime during the period after he fell unconscious at his workplace but before the seizures/second stroke/CA (was he aware that he was in a hospital)?

Sorry, I didn't see your post E Flowers, nor did it come up on my alerts. Which post are you referring to, or which NDE ?? Do you mean Lucas ?

Yeah, Lucas. He mentions that he became aware that he was in a hospital after his NDE, that he woke up while being intubated and an M.D. told him that he had a severe stroke, somehow remaining awake afterwards while trapped inside his unresponsive body. Wasn't he aware of it before, while undergoing the standard studies following the first stroke?

Okay, I'm going to have to respond to this tomorrow, E Flowers.  I'm not quite sure I understand your question perfectly but I'll answer it to your satisfaction, hopefully. I can ask Carlos Mendes if there is anything else you need to know after I've got back to you.

He was transferred from his place of work unconscious after a stroke...taken to hospital unconscious. He remained unconscious and had a second stroke and cardiac arrest 8 hours later.

From the moment of going unconscious (at work) until cardiac arrest (8 hours later) he remembered nothing (dreamless sleep as he put it) until he "woke up" out of his body up in the corner of the ICU looking down on his physical body. He saw all the commotion of the doctors and nurses and saw his mother being shepherded out and then he realised he had died. He remembered having the thought "I died" and noted that he had a very solid view of everything and contemplated how ugly his body was.

Funny- the ugliness of the body, the fact that it is just a stinking piece of meat, has been described by many NDE'ers.

Yeah, I think he meant regarding the state his body was in. His face must have looked horribly discoloured and possibly distorted.

I've heard others say this even though the body was relatively normal. From our non-physical state even a healthy body is an ugly thing.

Dannion Brinkley said something like "I thought I was better looking than that"

There was a woman in Peter Fenwick's book (Doreen Wood) that stated from her OBE position, "Was that old body with it's knees curled up against the wall, was that me ?"

Maurice James from the same book (I think) hanging on the ceiling of the intensive care unit after a cardiac arrest. " I was shocked at what an ugly corpse I was, I seemed to have a black triangle from my hairline to my nose. My wife later confirmed my appearance.

I can't imagine many people look their best after an ER visit/event that led to an NDE Smile
