What are you watching?

Well, since Sci posted the "What are you listening to?" thread, I thought it would be okay to make another "What are you watching thread?" 

I'm watching David Lynch's and Mark Frost's Twin Peaks: The Return.

I watched the original run of Twin Peaks back in the day, and when I heard it announced back in 2014, I thought, well, I'll give it a go. Though I love me some Lynch, I didn't have high expectations for the show and went in with that mindset. I didn't even watch the new episodes when they first aired and was behind by several episodes when I finally started watching them (using Showtime Anytime -- I never watch anything at appointed times anymore!). But, wow, I got totally sucked in and love it.

Yes, it's full of Lynch-type "weirdness," but it has continued its themes of duality, in the material world and the "spiritual" world, and touches on a lot of esoteric themes.

But some of these new episodes are absolutely brilliant, in my opinion.

I know Lynch and particularly Twin Peaks isn't everyone's cup of tea, but I was surprised at how much I love it.

So, what are you all watching?

I am waiting for Twin Peaks to finish broadcasting then I want to binge watch the whole season. I was such a fan of the original two seasons and watched them again in preparation for this one. So please: no spoilers!

Otherwise, I've been watching a mixture of stuff including:
- American Horror (first two seasons)
- Luke Cage
- The Killing (US version, Season 1)
- The Expanse
- Homeland (latest)
- The 4400 (all 4 seasons)
- X Company (Canadian - complete set)
- American Gods

and, of course, the brilliant 
- Better Call Saul.

I miss British TV but the streaming services we have here in NZ are dominated by US shows with a scattering of decent British shows mixed in.

Oh yes, how could I forget:
- Game of Thrones

Hah, I was thinking quite a bit about this show the other day. When this show was showing in my country, back in the the early 90's, in my late teens, (you know; before the shit kids a re spoiled with today via internet) we was a gang of 7-8 guys & gals that always watched this show together (almost religiously) every Friday. The responses of the show shifted through the group; "WTF is this??.....this is great!!...or is it??......it's weird.....but it's great...but in a `straight-out-of-the-asulym´-way....nah, this man (Lynch) is insane....or a genius....or an insane genius....and WTF was the thing about the Owl...and Bob behind the sofa.... who gives a fuck about Laura palmer??....bollox to this - it's a mind-fuck,....but it is a GREAT mind-fuck,....cant wait for the next episode" etc...

Now, when I watch this new show (what is it??..20-22 years later?), it feels like seeing "old family". : Bobby (the grunge-kid) all grown up, and grey-haired..and a cop!?!, Deputy Hawk grey-haired but with the same granite-face, Audrey Horne all grown up women, same with Shelly Johnson (hot as ever, but a women. ), and Laura Palmer in her late 40's, nice to see (Harley-Davidson) James (also grey haired), and Big Ed Hurley & Benjamin Horne (also grey-haired) ...I begin to see a pattern here....time moves on, people get old.

But Norma Jennings is almost frozen in time - she looks almost like she did 20 years ago (contract with the devil, anyone? ). I'm a bit like Norma Jennings, blessed with good genetics or something ( I look almost the same I did in my 20-25's when I check photos and old drivers licenses - not a baby-face through), I added a slightly bit of weight, but no wrinkles, receding hairline, or grey hair. But I guess it's just a matter of "minutes", and soon I wake up one morning looking like Willie Nelson, or something. Up for a morning-shaving, looking in the mirror and thinking; "-Who the fuck are you - and where went I??"

But anyway; it is a bit if gut-wrenching watching this show now, seeing how our old "friends" all got old, and realise how fast time moves. It's just like when you meet an old classmate from college, that you almost not recognize, and get reminded that times waits for no-one, and we are born with one foot in the grave...

I know, it's so weird to see everyone again. I think aging is part of the theme for the new show, how people change, sometimes for the better, sometimes for the worse.

And yeah, Norma! I was shocked to find out the actress is 71!

I haven't seen any of those shows you listed other than Better Call Saul, which I love BTW. I've been a Bob Odenkirk fan for a long time. I tend to watch only one show at a time, except when I'm trying to get sleepy at night or whatever and watch old episodes of Star Trek (all incarnations).

Oh, I know! I thought it was brilliant! I didn't want to say too much, though, because Kamarling didn't want spoilers, and I'd hate to ruin that episode for him or anyone else who hasn't watched it yet.

Saw IT - great film in the vein of Stranger Things but IMO not really scary.

More like an 80s fantasy adventure film to me than a horror film, though part of this may be my memory of reading the book as a kid and putting it down once sunset came along.
