Fractal Images or Videos

Just in case anyone here is thinking about doing this (probably not you Brian because of your ageing computer) it has just occurred to me that since C is complex, its variation could be done on a closed loop in the complex plane (e.g. a circle). That would create a video that could be looped seamlessly, which might be seriously hypnotic - even providing a gateway into an altered state of consciousness!

BTW Does anyone know if running a computer with all its cores blazing for some time does any harm to the machine - e.g. to the fan? The fan sounds so strident when I do that, I am a little scared to let it loose on a long computation.

I doubt that it would be possible to use cut/paste on what you displayed because I think the file itself was in binary format and all those dots aren't really the dot characters. You can of course check that - just copy what you pasted to a new file and see if it reads into M3D

Thanks, that is interesting. Currently the self-written program I'm using doesn't generate anything like that, not even in its static form. As I said the code has a long history, I've done quite a lot of tinkering with the external parts such as running more threads simultaneously and changing the user interface. What goes on in terms of the calculation Is not something I've touched in decades.

I recognise the idea, possibly I might work on it but I'd have to do some research first to understand how to achieve the simple, static version.

So long as all the ventilation slots are clear and there is good airflow around the outside of the machine, it should be ok. Eventually anything with moving parts will experience wear, but the main priority is to keep the silicon within its operating temperature range. I've had computers just shut down without warning due to overheating, though not recently I'm glad to say.

I sometimes use Open Hardware Monitor to keep an eye on the CPU or other temperatures to see how that compares with manufacturer's published specifications.

It does.  Parameter sharing was always done that way on Fractal Forums.

That is strange - I wonder what all those dot characters mean?

Default/unset parameters, perhaps.

This is an old one.  I did a little post processing in Gimp because I didn't want to risk re-rendering it.

Chaos Pro Mandelbrot - no filters.

The most common way I work is, using TieraZon, I take three different images, using different filter types, of the same view, then layer them in Gimp using different layer blending modes.
