Are spirits electromagnetic energy?

65 Replies, 2848 Views

I'm listening to a lot of video talks by mediums right now, especially pet/animal mediums, and one consistent theme of information is that spirits are electromagnetic energy, like every living thing is. Does anybody have thoughts about this?

p.s. I posted this in this subforum just because I didn't know where else.

On the face of it, the idea doesn't make much sense to me because psychic phenomena seem to work regardless of distance. However maybe there is some generalised form of electromagnetism that might fit the bill. I do remember that Seth suggests something like that - but do you think Seth is telling us something important? I came to feel that what he wrote (or channelled) seemed to be deliberately vague.

I don't know. I just know (and trust) mediums' experience of something they describe as such - and they can relate the discarnates explaining to them that that is what is happening.

The concept of "vibration" also gets applied here, with each being having his or her own EME vibration or frequency. Animal communicators always say (and I've been listening to more than half a dozen) to our animal pets have a higher frequency than ours, even while in body, so that we have to raise ours to communicate with theirs (and when we are grieving, ours gets lower still, which makes communication more difficult).

The concept of frequency seems particularly odd to me. Is it meant to be taken literally and measured in Hz, or is it a loose analogy with radio, WiFi etc?

Christian Sundberg didn't really enlighten me about this.

Do you have a pet communication that is worth watching?

I like this lady a lot. Brent Atwater. I'm listening to this interview right now with her where she's talking about this amongst other things (in the first 20 minutes), but she has tons of shorter videos on her channel.

The interview starts around 6 minutes.

I would have thought that if "spirits" (whatever a spirit is) were on the electromagnetic spectrum, then they would be rather ordinary, but I'll try and elaborate tomorrow as it's an interesting thought (although unanswerable).

I feel like the spectrum runs from the mundane/physical up to higher planes.

I mentioned this in another thread but a passage from Kripal's Authors of the Impossible:

Quote:Enter the classic mystical understanding of consciousness as light. This is an ancient and well-worn metaphor, but it takes on a new life in the second half of the nineteenth century as physicists began to discover that visible light is in fact only a small part of a much larger spectrum of energy. Hence Myers’s aforementioned “spectrum of consciousness” through which he sought to draw “a comparison of man’s range of consciousness or faculty to the solar spectrum, as seen by us after passing through a prism or examined in a spectrascope” (HP 1:xxi). Myers uses such a prismatic effect to suggest that the light of consciousness is not singular at all, that consciousness can be broken up into various bands, much like white light can be separated into a rainbow of colors. Most of the light spectrum, moreover, particularly that beyond the infrared (on the lower end) and ultraviolet (on the higher end), appears well outside the bands of everyday awareness. Similarly, Myers suggested, most of the spectrum of consciousness is entirely invisible to our normal senses and present egoic form of awareness.

I feel like this is might be what is meant?
'Historically, we may regard materialism as a system of dogma set up to combat orthodox dogma...Accordingly we find that, as ancient orthodoxies disintegrate, materialism more and more gives way to scepticism.'

- Bertrand Russell

For me, such ideas as electromagnetic energy and frequency, vibration and so on are not to be taken to mean the same thing that they do in physics and mainstream science. The ideas may be taken metaphorically, mystically, poetically and in that way might have some ability to express an idea. But to take such terms literally, to imagine that spirits are composed of photons causes problems, it is an obstacle to trying to make sense of things.

If someone such as a medium has something interesting to say then fine. But I'd suggest filtering out the parts where it is pretended that the language of established mainstream science is to be taken at face value. Remember that there is a very broad audience, the general public listening to the ideas of such people. Most of the audience will have very little idea about the meanings of a lot of scientific terms, it is important to consider who are the target audience.

We on this forum vary in our backgrounds but in general we ask a lot more questions than is probably expected. Because of that we see through the language more readily. The difficulty is where to stop. When asking questions and filtering out the parts which don't make sense, it may seem that little or nothing remains. That would be a shame, I'm not suggesting to dismiss messages from a medium entirely just because of unfortunate choice of phrasing. There are other ways to weigh and evaluate such messages. Whether or not we feel someone is sharing something of value is not dependent only on the surface appearance, the packaging in which it is wrapped.
