Returning from death - Interview with Dr. Pim van Lommel  KOSMOS MAGAZINE

"There are still a lot of neuroscientists who look somewhere in the brain to see if they can find 'something'. They will never find consciousness in the brain"

"Our ideas about death define how we live our life. As long as we think that death is the end of everything....people (put)
their energy (into) a materialistic society..so it's all about money, big cars a beautiful body, power, big house etc but when you know there is a continuity of consciousness you use all (this) effort to change yourself, to have empathy and compassion towards others and towards nature.

If we destroy nature, we destroy planet earth. When you know that everything you do to others and to nature will
ultimately come back to you, the positive and the negative aspects, you (as an experiencer) will change your life forever.

That's a very good interview with Van Lommel that could do a good job of introducing NDE research and its implications about the mind-brain connection to NDE illiterates and open-minded but uninformed materialists.

I especially like the succinct but fairly exhaustive way he describes what happens to the different parts of the brain when cardiac arrest occurs.

p.s. by the way tim, if it's a case of you not knowing how but wanting to, if you want to embed the youtube video in your posts, you just the two-film-frames icon above the posting area (oto the left of the smiley face), select "Youtube", and then insert the url there. That's if you care! Wink
Helmut Gombocz (born 1948) is an Austrian (born) painter and philosopher. When he was only eleven, his father died leaving the family (understandably just after the war) in a precarious situation. Children in Austria then, were sent on summer "holidays" into the countryside, which gave his mother a welcome break from having to find the necessities to feed him etc as food was in short supply.

Helmut had two near death experiences which were directly related, the second from the first..but the former is only briefly explained as occurring after a fall from 30 feet up at the top of a hay barn, knocking him senseless and breaking his collar bone(s)

The second occurred after he'd been (eventually) sent to hospital to have his bones fixed and when he was given a big dose of ether to anaesthetise him.

It's not a typical NDE, there's no heavenly scenes described but nevertheless, it is very interesting and at around 18 minutes, even more so, definitely worth waiting for to hear his thoughts on what is important in life and what is not etc. (in his opinion of course)

As an aside, he seems to be quite well known as a painter and somehow became friendly with Arnold Schwarzenegger, which resulted in him opening a museum (with Arnie's portraits) in his honour.
