Reality forks?

Jurgen Ziewe notes at one point in his ramblings outside the physical world, that some people die and then exist for a period of time in an earth-like reality that fools them into thinking that they are still alive. They have friends, family, jobs, etc.

For some time now I have felt that I live in a world that is gradually going completely mad! I seriously want to speculate that at some point - say about 15 years ago - I died and entered a reality that is forked off consensus reality - like the realities that Jurgen encountered. I know that there are many people my age who agree wholeheartedly with the concept that the world has gone mad.

OTH I obviously interact with some people who are much younger, most of whom are presumably still alive in consensus reality. I wonder if such people participate with my reality in their dreams, and even that this is what dreams are for - to bolster up a forked reality.

The details of why I think the world has gone mad would undoubtedly be classed as political, so I won't go into details, but anyone who is interested can obviously PM me.

What happens next, is entirely up to speculation, but living part of our time in a reality fork, could offer us a much richer set of experiences!

Does anyone like that idea, or maybe think I am mad?

Sorry, I'm very late in responding here. I have a large backlog of unread posts.

First, I think that Jurgen Ziewe's ideas are useful and important, what he says echoes or is corroborated by other researchers, though people may describe things in the context of their own background.

Second, as for your own concerns, I think that's a metaphorical expression of feeling disconcerted - rather than having literally died and entered a different reality.

I will add that for myself, what you describe doesn't match my own experience. Maybe it's because I went through immense turmoil between the ages of about 19 and 25, my world-view was tumbling and chaotic during those years. (A long time ago now.) Nowadays the world seems a smoother ride, the things going on in the world impact me deeply of course, but there is still a sense of it being the same old world spinning round.

The problem is that everything I talked about relates in some way to politics - which we don't do here - that was why I wrote it in such an oblique fashion. If you are about my age (72) you must have experienced much the same political background as I did.

I'm a few years younger than you, but we are close enough - many of the people I socialise with are around our ages - some a fair bit older.

Yes, I got the political inferences in your post, which I agree makes it difficult to discuss here. Actually, my personal choice is to not discuss politics anywhere online.

My view though is that we each of us interpret the world though the background of our own upbringing and life experiences (and possibly of past-life experience too). I suspect there are substantial differences there.

What concerns me most, and has done my entire adult life, is mental wellbeing, my strongest interests have always been in that area, which of course leads into areas such as insights into various religions as well as ideas about psychiatry. Those things are what led me to Skeptiko initially and later to Psience Quest.

I have another idea about what might be going on. After all, it really feels now as if a lot of people are simply behaving recklessly (particularly in high places). and I wonder if some event - maybe a serious asteroid hit - is coming in the near future and more and more people are sensing the precognitive waves from that event.

These remarks are all I can come up with at the moment, and may or may not really relate to your situation. I think political aspects are inevitable in any such assessment, but are only part of an immensely complex big picture, and can at least be mentioned in this forum.

I think the causes are complex of the ongoing overthrow in favor of fascist ideologies of the liberal/progressive agenda in Western societies especially the USA. These trends can be mostly ascribed to the probable large and long-term cycling of public groupthink fuelled by economic woes, and just the "normal" perversities of human nature such as wanting to make somebody or somebodies to blame for suffering, endemic racism and hate of minorities and "different" people in general, and greed. And these trends are also exacerbated by the accelerating alienation and nihilism of the general public fuelled by the pervasive reductive materialism of our society, slowly but inevitably filtering down from academia and the schools into the general population. 

No guarantees, but the current toxic cycle may eventually reverse itself and bring society back to some semblance of sanity. Only maybe, because outside forces (i.e. such as Global Anthropogenic Warming effects) squeezing down our technologically-based Western society may so degrade living conditions that this cycle may just keep getting worse without forseeable limit.
