Does nothing really matter? On one level I get it, but is it true at all levels?

Oh my God, I hate all this.   Surprise

I think that thing really do matter! Otherwise, why are we here, if nothing really matters?

Everything has a meaning. Everything has a purpose. Everything really does matter, in some way or another.

I tend to think the same way...however...I do respect what Tolle has to say, so what does he mean? I bet his answer to my question would be interesting rather than black and white.

I’ve been getting a deep knowing recently when I say to myself “Everything is perfect”. It makes me emotional and not in a bad way.

‘Vincent’ came on my playlist as I wrote this. Sort of fitting. Sad but beautiful.

Obviously he doesn't mean that nothing matters on all levels, because then why would it matter to drop the obsession or not? Wink

A quote from Tolle:
Quote:You don’t have a separate will. The separate will wants to enhance or strengthen one’s sense of self. The separate will is concerned with the “me”, the “I”, the ego. But there is a divine Consciousness, the one Consciousness, there is an evolutionary impulse.

Questions for Eckhart: Finding Balance

And another quote:
Quote:For thousands of years, humanity has been increasingly mind-possessed, failing to recognize the possessing entity as “not self.” Through complete identification with the mind, a false sense of self—the ego—came into existence.

Conditioned by the Past: Karma and Consciousness

He is a nihilist. Therefore he probably thinks that nothing really matters. I disagree with everything he says and I also think that he is a con artist.

Steve, here's the answer:

5 - human level: things matter
4 - spirit level: things matter, but different things
3 - supra spirit/pure mind level: nothing matters
2 - super duper spirit pure mind level: everything matters
1 - super duper supra Source level: xezsdfwaedasdfasdf

wash, rinse, repeat

It was more of a joke, Steve. Gotta work on my humor I see.

No need Ian, it’s me. I thought that it was something that you understood. I thought to myself “must be unique to Canadians”.  Big Grin

He denies it, then he affirms it... okay then...

He lacks imagination if he doesn't realize that the Divine Source of All can do absolutely anything ~ including creating a very real distinct sense of self that experiences a reality of separatedness and individuality.

Quote:For thousands of years, humanity has been increasingly mind-possessed, failing to recognize the possessing entity as “not self.” Through complete identification with the mind, a false sense of self—the ego—came into existence.

But... the ego gives rise to the mind. The Soul, the Individual Self, of a person, chooses to undergo their life experience in the physical, because it is temporary, and can teach meaningful lessons from a unique perspective.

That's exactly the sort of vibe I get from him ~ "nothing matters, don't bother trying to understand the cause of it, be mindlessly happy". Good for spiritual bypassing, so the suffer never has to do the gritty work of really understanding themselves, and therefore, becoming truly free, and finding purpose and meaning.
