NDE's

(Summary) In June 2016,  René Volken (a German driver by 'profession') and his son were attending a graduation ceremony for his daughter. Just two days previously, René's wife had been buried, after finally succumbing to a terminal brain tumour. Their mood was understandably very low and on top of that, Herr Volken was experiencing violent stomach pains which didn't respond to attempts to alleviate them.

After the three of them arrived at his mother's house for lunch, and he was unable to eat anything (because of the agonising pain), his son drove him to the local emergency room where he had a heart attack and lost consciousness. His condition worsened and he was driven by emergency blue light to another hospital, where his heart stopped (cardiac arrest) for nearly ten minutes.

During that time, he found himself in a bright, white environment 'talking' with his deceased wife, who told him that she was fine and that he must meet/find somebody else (to be with). Two days later he woke up at 12.30 in a recovery room to find "a woman" he vaguely knew, standing over him touching his forehead. This woman simply disappeared and then a nurse standing to the side of him explained what had happened to him.

Volken was bewildered by this encounter. He had previously believed when you're dead, you're dead and that's it. Furthermore, who was the woman he had briefly seen standing over him in the hospital ? He knew that he'd seen her before in a restaurant near to the town where he lived, but no more than that. He then (as he explained) started to put two and two together and began to visit the restaurant where this woman worked, without saying anything.

After several visits, he eventually plucked up the courage to talk to her and tell her about his experience. She was shocked (understandably). Evelynne A (her name) elaborates.

"When René regained consciousness at the hospital on Sunday, I was at Antalya airport in Turkey at the same time (12.30), waiting for my suitcase in the airport building. Suddenly someone touched my shoulder, and when I turned around, René, whom I only knew fleetingly, was behind me. At the same time a woman's voice whispered to me: "He has arrived."

So it appears that Herr Volken simultaneously saw the doppleganger of his future companion ( Frau Evelynne A) while she similarly  saw 'his' (doppleganger) at the airport.

Sceptics of course will advance any number of 'explanations' to discount this event but unless it's all an elaborate hoax, it's rather remarkable by anybody's standards.

As I said in the interview, I was in extreme doubt (about this subject) before my near death experience. But it (life after death) really does exist. And since the 2nd of June 2018 I have been engaged to the woman who I "appeared" to in Turkey.

I've posted this Italian documentary before but the producer has subsequently (very kindly) provided English subtitles. The translation is not perfect (nor should we expect it to be). There are instances where he should be she for example but it's perfectly good enough to get the drift.

All in all, a good documentary with some very pleasant scenery. I personally found the information provided by Anna Siboni, very compelling and David Vaccarin's subsequent "conversion" but others, of course may disagree.

Seeing as we are so short of NDE material at the moment, I thought I'd post this. Not because it isn't interesting, it is. It's the NDE of a Brazilian neurologist, yet another high ranking medic to have one of these experiences. However, there isn't a great deal of detail. Nonetheless …..

In August 2016, Brazilian neurologist, Dr Joel Paulo Veiga, was due to go on a short trip with his wife and grandson. At about five thirty in the morning, he was awakened by an excruciating pain in his chest. Dr Veiga had a history of medication controlled hypertension and knew (by the severity of the pain) that he had likely suffered an aortic aneurysm.

He told his wife to drive him to the hospital where he worked but she missed the turning and he (fortunately) ended up in a nearby cardiology institute. On arrival he was immediately put on a stretcher and taken for a cat scan which proved him right. He did have an aortic dissection, which carries about a ten per cent chance of survival (apparently)

After the lengthy operation, he unfortunately contracted pneumonia and an antibiotic resistant bacteria during his time in the ICU where he lay intubated and unconscious on a respirator.

His NDE began with the observation of the room and the medics who were there. He was able to comprehend everything they were thinking/read their thoughts. He saw the cardiologist (Dr Junqueira) enter the room and shake his head whilst thinking..... (note not speaking, though)

“SE ESTA INFECÇÃO CHEGAR NA PRÓTESE, BYE, BYE”

Meaning, If the infection gets into the prosthesis (the artificial patch), Bye Bye !

Later when he recovered, the cardiologist confirmed that he had indeed thought this (but not expressed it verbally, naturally)

Veiga was also totally dependent on the respirator  but he also saw the doctors debating when they were going to withdraw it etc.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E-fy0xxUHNQ his experience starts at about 21 minutes but of course it can only be partially understood with auto -translate.

Dr Jean Pierre Jourdan is a French investigator into the phenomenon of NDE's and also a former president of IANDS France. He published a book analysing the subject in 2007, entitled 'Deadline', which as far as I know, hasn't been translated into English yet.

This paper published in the controversial Journal of Cosmology in 2011, contains fascinating information from 70 retrospective cases of NDE which reportedly occurred during cardiac arrests and other various life threatening situations. This sample seems to contain a lot of cases where 360 degree penetrative vision (through objects, walls, ceilings etc) seems to have occurred, which ties in well with many reports away from this sample, such as the well known case of truck driver Al Sullivan, for example (Greyson, Kelly and Williams)

"The perceptions we are going to study here come from persons who, having survived a cardiac arrest or some other life-threatening circumstances, report a Near-Death-Experience (NDE). Although they were totally unconscious for any witness around them, these patients frequently report clear memories and can describe accurately their vicinity, including details that can be checked afterwards and scenes that allow clarifying the "moment" of the experience, all that seemingly perceived from a point external to their body."

The paper is on line, so I'm assuming there isn't a problem with sticking it up here, but if there is, please feel free to delete it. It is, however a very interesting read for those with half an hour to spare. Max in particular will take comfort from small portions of it.

Lastly, a member of the forum (some time ago) enquired into which NDE contained the observation of a lipstick in pocket. That NDE (Jean Morzelle) is referred to here.

Mr James G, formerly a member of the British Army's first Royal Tank Regiment, experienced a veridical OBE during the period he was lying comatose in the ICU, after a very serious operation for the treatment of a brain aneurysm. He was kind enough to respond to my interest and answer some questions about his experience, as well as giving me permission to publish it here.

I had a bad near fatal brain bleed when I was 27...I was a British Soldier at the time in Germany...after saving me...and when I was in intensive care...I was out of my body and out of the intensive care suit. The Military had brought one of my older brothers over...just in case I did die.  I was floating next to him in the hospital corridor and I know what he said to the nurse and what she said to him...and who was down the corridor. The red light was flashing at the top of the door (the door to the intensive care unit) in the corridor.

The first thing I thought was, "This is weird, what's going on?"  I could see, think and I was me. It was like looking out of a ball of energy. I saw myself (my physical body inside the unit) through the window in the corridor...but I wasn't bothered about that "thing" lying there. So I (later when he recovered)) started to read about such things. And over the years I have changed my outlook about this planet and about what matters in life.

I asked James what would he say to sceptics who would try and tell him that it didn't really happen like that. You weren't "actually" out of your body, you just imagined that you were ? He replied....

Well.. I was out of my body next to my older brother (NB*James couldn't have known he was there) who is also an ex soldier...they had brought him over to Germany just in case I did die. He was saying to the nurse, "What is happening ?"...and she said to him..."We think your brother is trying to breath on his own!"

As I looked about, I saw the red light on the outside of the door at the top (to the intensive care unit) flashing red ...and down the corridor was my RSM (Regimental Serjeant Major) and two others in suits...looking towards my brother. I could see myself (my physical body) from my vantage point (outside) through the windows into the room (from the corridor)...I knew what it was (my body) but I wasn't bothered as I was separate from it (my body).

In fact the first thing I said (thought) to myself was, "What is going on? this is weird!" It was like looking out of a ball or an orb as I understand it!.  It has made me a more spiritual person...not religious.

I thanked him again and then expressed my desire to get this experience down in detail and post it on a psi forum, whilst assuring him that it was perfectly okay if he didn't want to.

Hi,  I wasn't out of my body that long. Everything I have put down is as it is. ……They (The Army) had brought my older brother over to Kassel in Germany as they (always) bring someone over if you're fighting for your life, and they think you will not survive. Obviously I didn't know my brother was there. Anyway, I was on a ventilator (in a coma) in the hospital and not in a good way.

This was after the operation that saved me. I had been visited by friends and colleagues from my regiment the First Royal Tank Regiment, and I was told this later. I had had a burst brain aneurysm. But when I had this experience of being 'out of my body', I was next to my brother in the hospital corridor, outside my hospital (intensive care) room.

It was like looking out of something like a ball of energy. The first thing I thought was, "What is going on? This is weird!" Then I saw my brother (S). He stands about 6ft 1in and it was as if I was looking down from possibly about a foot taller than him (meaning above him). He was saying to this nurse (who was) to his left....but from my point of view from my right.....

….he said, "What is happening ?"... the nurse said, "We think your brother is trying to breath on his own!" I saw also down the corridor my RSM and two other people in suits. They were looking towards my brother and the nurse and the door into the hospital room (where I was in the ICU). Then I glanced at the red light flashing above the unit door. And I saw myself..... my body... lying in the far left corner of the room through the window in the corridor.

I knew it was my body but I wasn't bothered about that. I could see... but it was different than seeing with my eyes. It was as I said, as if I was looking out of a ball of energy, and I could see as if normally. I was thinking normally as well. And I could tell I was me... my own personality. The only thing that was absent was breathing and respiration.

Then nothing. I must have gone back into my body. That is it all. It wasn't long. But I will never forget this. I spoke later about this with my brother and said what I saw and heard. And what I think had occurred. Being that I had left my body, I had felt religious, but I have since become a more spiritual kind of person and rejected religion. I have become a more caring person. And I pass on to others my experience and what I think and believe now.

Please could you clarify a couple of things ? You said it wasn't an accident. Is there anything more you can say about that ? Secondly, did I read you correctly, that you confirmed all this with your brother ?

Yes, even though I had an aneurysm...I never knew (obviously) And I was having a drink with fellow soldiers when after leaving the A sqn Bar...an NCO (Non commissioned officer) who was coming down the stairs with me...pushed my head, and it (accidentally) hit the wall...and what was wrong (the aneurysm) burst.

(James advanced some personal philosophical thoughts here) What I believe is that when it is your time....you may possibly see other spirits who welcome you or (you'll) maybe see a tunnel.

Yes, I discussed it with my brother and he concurred with me about what he and the nurse had said. I believe we are a small fraction of the infinite. Some call this the original spirit?

(My brain hemorrhage occurred on the night of the last Saturday of October in 1997 in Barkar Barracks, Paderborn Germany . I was in D sqn The First Royal Tank Regiment. Thanks. Mr James G.

Many thanks to Mr James G !

This post has been deleted.
The following 2 are courtesy of Tim..

The first one, Julia Fischer of Austria, has been online for a few years and has now received an English voiceover. Her NDE happened at age 6 and she had an OBE NDE after a cerebral hemorrhage.

The second one is Mr. Claude Hitz from Germany and it's in German but it has English subtitles (switch 'em on through the CC button). Tim said it's a very persuasive veridical OBE:

Paramedics are much more likely to experience the "reports" of others who've had a close brush with death, than to experience it for themselves. Paramedic Adam Tapp, however became an experiencer himself when he was electrocuted in 2018, and went into cardiac arrest for more than 11 minutes (the report states).

His case is one of a new study comprising 158 self reported NDE's which were "text mined" (Text mining),  basically a computer analysis of word text looking for commonalities and repeating patterns etc, without any bias, (if I have that right) and is a joint study with  Andrea Soddu, (a member of Western’s renowned  Brain and Mind Institute) and Stephen Laureys' coma group in Belgium.

The experience has no veridical content but it is interesting, not least because  Adam is very articulate and measured in his description. There's also an additional 16 minute radio interview.

So, the source really isn't reliable (dailymail) but this news made it all over many online newspapers in italy. Anybody knows if it's true? Seems the woman was flatline for nearly 10 hours, and had an NDE. Interesting is the fact that maybe there was no resuscitation or CPR attempt in her case.
At tim's request for this thread to be purely a compendium of NDE accounts, and for posts that are not NDE accounts to be removed from it, a new commentary thread has been created to accompany this thread, and preexisting non-NDE account posts have been moved there. Please, going forward, post only NDE accounts in this thread, and commentary (and related discussion) on them in the companion commentary thread.
