Meat diets vs. vegetarianism

While I attempted to make light of things in my previous post, I make no such attempt with this one. I weep at our cruelty.  Sad

Oh my God, I hate all this.   Surprise
I know this thread is meant for debate, but I couldn’t help sharing some exciting news for my fellow vegans/vegetarians here!

Nice! Have you tried these egg-replacers, TheRaven?

By the way, you're welcome to revive, for posts like this, the original thread out of which this one was split, Vegetarianism and veganism.
As a fan of food and as an Asian, I ate almost every living thing.
There is no word of vegetarian or meat diets in my dictionary   Wink
Even though I have tried to eat only vegetables, but apparently my body cannot accept it. And if only eating meat I would have big problems on the digestive system Confused

Sadly, I have not tried them. I don't believe they are selling them to grocery stores yet, at least not in my area. They have to be pretty darn good though, considering they were named one of “2018’s Best Innovations” by Popular Science!

Haha....sorry Steve, we all need a hobby!! Tongue
Thanks for the good natured response....
I think it's all about compassion......and that includes first and foremost compassion for ones own self too!! Don't be too hard on yourself....
Thank you so much for the Khalil Gibran quote......wow, pretty much exactly says succintly what I was waffling on about! I haven't read Gibran since I was a teenager, and I no doubt would have not understood this quote back then when I did (when I used to be a lot more "fundy" about my vegeterianism, used to know precisely which foods contained which animal by-products, which e-numbers and avoided them religiously etc).
So either the book wove it's influence on me subtly over the intervening years/decades, or my understanding/views are maturing naturally into ones resonant with Gibran's......it always nice to get some sort of external verification/legitmisation for what are somewhat random and non-common perspectives on things from respected sources.....cheers for that!! Smile

You’re most welcome Manjit.

I see you spelled his name differently to me, I copied the usual way - Kahlil. I am aware that there is some discussion about this, and would like to get it right. What is your understanding?

Btw we appear to be light years from what Kahlil is getting at these days. But that’s ok too.

I don't know the answer. I always assumed that Khalil was correct. But most likely it is an error in transliteration between languages using different alphabets, and also having different types of sounds used commonly in speech. Some alphabets such as the Cyrillic (used in Slavic languages such as Russian or Ukrainian) have a single letter to represent the 'kh' sound, but English speakers can find this difficult to pronounce. The same difficulties and ambiguities often arise in spelling and pronunciation of foreign place-names and people's names from various languages

Hey Steve...I wasn't even aware there was an issue! I just spelled it how I hear it in my head, and assumed that was the way everyone spelled it!
Looking at his Wiki entry, it seems it can be spelt both ways? As Typoz says, I think it's just the standard issue of transliterating name and place spellings from one language into another.....either way will do (but Khalil seems more phontetically accurate to me?)....
Cheers Big Grin

I will work my way through all your links over the next several weeks and do the ruminating required. I shall surely come back to update you with the outcome......

Thanks again Laird, I will chew over this information over the next few weeks Thumbs Up

Hey Laird,

Apologies for the delay in getting back to you on this, though I'm certain you don't mind (I was made redundant from my job a few weeks prior to my original comment on this, and the next 6 months were pretty stressful so I kinda avoided the additional "issue" of radically changing my diet too, lazy I know) !

Anyway, just thought I'd let you know I decided the other day to go vegan(ish) and cut out the dairy products. It's a little bit daunting, but I felt I had to do it.

Now, I've spent quite some time researching this but still have no clarity and this is a most important issue for me........which vegan milk tastes best with cereal & in your tea??! Smile After doing a bit of reading, I bought a oatmilk and ricemilk (I think?) pint......but I've been too scared to try either yet  Sad LOL

Thought I would update you as you were kind enough to provide me with some links & information (and, also, haven't really got anyone else to "announce" it to as almost all my friends and family are meat eaters, and I don't like to mention these things, and I just had to "announce" it somewhere!!), so thanks for that  Thumbs Up

Cheers, Manjit
