Daily posting limit

29 Replies, 4429 Views

Hi,

I am wondering if the forums can be configured to enforce a daily limit for the maximum numbert of posts allowed for a user.

It if it possible I would like to request that a limit be set and automatically enforced.

I have been unofficially requested to post less even though my total number of posts is far from the highest in the forums.

I believe the request was made because someone doesn't like what I am saying.

I believe am being censored for my opinions and that is contradictory to the founding principles of these forums.

The only way to fairly impose a daily posting limit is to have it enforced by the system independent of the content of the message and independent of any complaintant.

This too shall pass Jim.  Smile

I find your Trump posts slightly annoying, but much less annoying than censorship!
Oh my God, I hate all this.   Surprise

Can you explain why they are annoying? When I don't like what someone posts I don't read their posts. They could post 100 time per hour and I wouldn't notice or care. Why doesn't that work for other people?

Thanks

Jim, the complaint wasn't based on how many posts you have in total or even how many posts you posted in a day. It was that you flooded over a brief period a single thread with multiple consecutive posts, and that your posts were perceived as proselytising.

You aren't being censored - you're free to (continue to) express your views in that thread or any other. There's no need for a daily post limit, all that's being (unofficially, by me) asked of you is to take a bit of care to avoid the same sort of flooding of a single thread in future.

Sure.

I don’t think Trump is good for anyone, except Trump, and not even him. I think he’s nuts. So when I see you posting so much stuff presumably attempting to persuade people like me that he is ‘good’, something in me gets slightly riled. I would agree with you that we can just ignore posts we don’t like, and do just that. I make my view known by liking Malf’s digs!  Tongue

I’d like to say more, but whenever I start posting lengthyish posts, the software on the forum combined with my IPad starts becoming REALLY annoying, and when I delete a word, it can continue deleting past what I want, into some lines back! It is a real issue. Still, maybe there’s a reason it’s happening as I’m beginning to think that we should meditate more and yak less!

I value your posts Jim, even the crappy ones!  Thumbs Up

He is good for the hatters.

Steve, have you tried accessing the forum via the Tapatalk app? Does it even run on your iPad? Ian seems to prefer it as an interface on mobile devices - maybe it would solve your problem. Otherwise, I understand that the next major release of the forum software we're using will be replacing the visual editor, which is apparently known to have many issues.

When you write: proselytising you are saying the problem is the content of the posts. That is what I am objecting to. Unless you do something official and in a way that does not depend on the content of the post then I am being restricted in ways that other members of the forum are not because of the views I express.

The content of the posts isn't a problem so long as you don't post consecutive floods of them to the same thread in short periods of time (and I'm speaking personally as a fellow poster, not as an admin).

The same "restrictions" (I quote that word only because nothing has been demanded of you officially) apply to other members of the forum: it would be equally problematic if any other member flooded a single thread over a brief interval with a bunch of consecutive, proselytising posts.

I’m trying Tapatalk now Laird, and I suspect it will solve my problem, so thanks a lot. [emoji4]
