I'm still not sure what separates politics and CT from the sailing & beer forum suggestions?

Well, if we don't make that concession, some of our members will have to go back to Alex's forum where they can discuss at least half of those topics to their heart's content. And possibly the other half too.

And that would be perfectly fine. This isn't a competition. People are welcome to post on any forums they wish,

I figure it only makes sense for Alex to host all the CT stuff since that's his new Skeptiko?

Politics....doesn't really seem to have much of a place here, at least no more than the conversations people have had about TV shows, food stuff, etc? In fact TV shows and music were bigger than politics OR CT in Other Stuff so it would make more sense to have separate forums for those before CT or politics.

Sci. Didn't you create the What are you listening to thread? What difference does it make what people talk about in other stuff? I'd love to have a thread on beer. I love beer. Wine. Yes. Cheese. Yes.

Well, thinking about all the things that caused conflict on Skeptiko, do we want pedophile "rights" threads? Holocaust Denial threads?

Seems like everyone has a limit as to what they think this forum's purpose should serve. I get the idea of a forum where anything and everything goes, but I thought that was the point of your forum?

I don't think the idea is "anything and everything goes", is it? Unless I've misunderstood, the political/conspiracy theory threads would still be moderated, and I'd hope things like paedophile propaganda or Holocaust denial would be promptly removed. Also publicity for some of the more distasteful foreign cheeses. It seems to me the people likely to suffer most are the moderators who will have to do the work of policing these threads, but if they are willing to do it ...

Don't get me wrong, I'm not opposed to the idea of discussing politics and will participate in the forums as I'm very interested in global affairs.

But I think what is going to happen is the gravity of politics, and CT to the extent it's just propaganda narratives for different sides, will end up being the major center of focus.

I think I said above. If a thread is inappropriate then delete it. No one wants to have threads on pedophile rights. Nor should any forum. But I don't think there need to be rules like no politics or especially conspiracy talk. Conspiracy gets to the heart of a lot of subjects here. Saying it isn't allowed is kind of silly.

Seems like most of the time someone asks for actual evidence and gets told they can't handle the truth, that they just need to Google, etc.

If we do have to endure conspiracy theories perhaps we should have a rule that mods lock threads when pro-CT peeps can't produce real proof when accusing others of some nefarious deeds?

So you don't think the Catholic church conspired to protect child abusers? JFK. No conspiracy there? MKULTRA?

In at least two of those cases there's accepted evidence right?

At what point is it ok to speculate over crimes committed by individuals while providing "evidence" on the level of Alex's insistence that we can just use Google Image Search?
