So it seems we will soon be able to learn more about a human being via MRI scans than the person knows about himself. No wonder for me somehow, as damage to the brain has shown loss of abilities and changes in character.

What came to my mind, though, was....when we think about the brain as a signal transmitter, as some theories suggest, it of course makes sense, that by altering the structure, the result will change. For this means that the signal is neutral and the brain makes us what we are. On the other hand this does not seem to fit with the theory regarding NDEs as people who had one assume that they have come close to death or were dead. If I recall correctly though, they still retain their character. The only explanation for me then would be, that the experience is in the brain.

Or that the brain pattern is a mirror of, or is mirrored in, 'the soul'. Making the brain effectively a very efficient RISC, or more probably, ASIC processor.

Where is experience located? What even is experience? Certainly from the point of view of reincarnation, where experiences such as very traumatic or painful ones may manifest as PTSD in a subsequent lifetime, it cannot have anything to do with the individual body. We may need to inhabit a body to inhabit this world and partake of it. But it seems more of a vehicle, like a motorcar, or a submarine, a way of travelling through this world. Character traits too may continue (for better or for worse) pretty much unchanged from one lifetime to the next. These are the findings of research. It is admittedly a difficult area to study in depth, but that in itself only means more efforts are needed by researchers.

I wouldn’t put too much credibility into such a sensationalist study with pretty vague predictions. fMRI science is imho a fringe science and there has been issues and debate before about the reliability of the results.
