Should we permit interviews on non-core subjects, esp AIDS/HIV?

Sociopolitically divisive... a lovely way to dump any topics your biased against. There is no way I'm going to continue membership of a homophobic forum, who only tolerates homosexuality if it remains hidden and unmentionable, singled out with particular significance for this treatment.

It's honestly your own problem if you can't possibly see a reason that having that interview here wouldn't be desirable to someone outside of them being homophobic. That's just a patently ridiculous notion.

People have listed good reasons here... it's an issue that lots of people feel is extremely unreasonable and damaging. Just because you don't accept those reasons as adequate doesn't mean it's reasonable for you to start making what is an unjustified leap to homophobia. How you're saying that that's the most reasonable inference is beyond me.

I've heard no reason yet given why the interview is inappropriate? Other than socially divisive, Africa, and Chris's threat to leave. Why do you think it is inappropriate...? That's what I don't have any clarity on at all...  even if it should be allowed anywhere on psiencequest... as Ninshub is suggesting.

This may seem rather ignorant, but to me the idea that HIV isn't related to AIDS is akin to flat earth science. It's a gut reaction. 

I honestly think folks are gun shy after what Alex did to Skeptiko. An OBE interview. Sure. NDE. Yes. Frankly I think UFO may be pushing it at this point. 

I think some folks feel like PQ is developing a brand. And if I were developing a brand I wouldn't really want this guy's science regarding HIV attached to it. I would like to see an interview with him regarding his tenor at JSE. To me that is interesting.

That's completely ridiculous Max, and you're clearly not reading my posts. I'm as socially liberal as they come, FYI. A complete and utter leftist on these matters. If anything, Bauer's ideas have been accused of homophobia, racism, etc*. But it's not on a Social Justice Warrior basis that I'm making my stand on this, it's because there's nothing paranormal about it. Period.

MAX_B. Can you summarize this guy's science in a way that makes sense for PQ to host the interview. I don't think many of us really know that much about his claims, aside from HIV isn't related to AIDS. (Is that right?)

You are way out in left field on this one. Not even sure where this is coming from. I mean lots of people suffering from HIV/AIDS aren't gay.

Why not try giving me a reason why discussion of hiv/aids on this forum should not be allowed? Damaging is not a reason.

How is this not a flat earth theory. Give us some idea that there is ANY validity to this.
