How to navigate creating threads about science and scientific controversies on PQ

5 Replies, 5164 Views

Following a proposal by Vortex, a new hidden (member opt-in) subforum was created, and, after the 2025-07-05 restructuring, is now located at Off-topic › Off-topic heterodox science forum [opt-in] (prior to the renaming it was under Other Topics › Non-Psi-Related Scientific Controversies). This subforum was created to discuss scientific controversies that aren't directly or indirectly related to psi, and that are also sociopolitically-related and tendentious, given the community's preference to avoid public conflict over sociopolitical matters.

The following is a guide to hopefully make clear(er) where to post about non-psi science topics, or scientific controversies, on the forum.

a) Threads about psi-related scientific controversies can and should be posted in the relevant subforums on the regular, open main forum. (E.g. "IANDS has been infiltrated by cult members" should go in the Near-death experience (NDE) forum).

b) Threads about science topics that relate indirectly to psi, spirituality and metaphysics (cosmology, evolution, possibly others) can and should go into the Connected science forum (evolution, ID, cosmology, fine-tuning, quantum mechanics) (E.g. threads about intelligent design.)

c) Threads about non-psi-related science topics that are not heavily sociopolitically-related or sociopolitically controversial can and should go into the Off-topic mainstream science forum (E.g. cold fusion.)

d) Threads about non-psi-related science topics that are or easily become sociopolitically-related or sociopolitically controversial can and should go into this new, hidden subforum (E.g. global warming.) (If you are unsure, ask yourself if the forum members who are not interested in non-psi political discussions or conspiracy theories would like to view these threads, and post accordingly. Global warming and other such non-psi topics can quickly descend into political battlegrounds and that should be the guiding principle here.) To view and post to this group, please follow the instructions in the thread, How to join the hidden politics, conspiracy theory & controversial science subforums.

Moderators & admins reserve the right to move threads on these topics if they feel they are misplaced.

Some of my threads were moved from skeptics v proponents thread to the alternative science thread.  I hope skeptics and proponents can still battle it out there with regards the failures of science otherwise I might just delete the threads because that is the only reason I posted them.
Sure, anybody's free to battle it out in those threads in that forum. From our rules (bold emphasis added):

Quote:Said skeptics are allowed to participate on all the forums and sub-forums. However, when an individual does not accept the anomalous nature of any of the various phenomena in the Extended Consciousness Phenomena (ECP) forum, and when the intent is strictly to "debunk", that type of post should be reserved for the Skeptic vs Proponent Discussions sub-forum (or at least kept out of the ECP forum)
