Finally built up the effort to make a post about stuff. This last year I was taking care of my wife's 98 year old great Grandmother, 'Yaiyai' I called her. Lovely old lady, was an absolute menace my job was more stopping her from doing stuff and hurting herself rather than actually helping her. Last month she passed away at home, had me and the wife here taking care of her during the final days. Yaiyai had two unique experiences she told me about and one we shared.
Yaiyai had talked to me about an NDE she had in the past when she had a heart attack. She was put on the emergency helicopter to be taken up the coast and it was unlikely she was going to survive. During the NDE she saw her husband and said she wanted to go with him but he told her she had to go home, so she did. She never much talked about the experience past the bare essentials and didn't remember most of it.
The second one was when her husband was close to passsing away, which was before her heart attack. He had a stroke and was in a coma that he wasn't going to recover. The nurses told her to reassure him things were alright and he was allowed to die and not long after that he passed away. There's so many times in life where people die suddenly and out of their control, but it's wild to think that sometimes people are able to 'give up' in a way and allow themselves to pass.
The final experience is ones that Yaiyai and us two great grandchildren shared. In the final days home there was a night where we all sat at her bedside talking, remniscing, relaxing. During that Yaiyai had several 'visitors' come to her, people only she could see. None of them really talked to her and none of them were people she was familiar with. One of them apparently put their hand on my wife's shoulder at some point. Yaiyai didn't seem particularly relieved by them being there but I think it did give her a sense of comfort. She was very lucid during all of this, not at all confused and talking with me and the wife fine. I slept next to Yaiyai during these final days and on the night she did she woke up at one point and was asking for people to 'take her'. I helped her relax, tidied her up a bit and fell asleep holding her hand. When I woke up that following morning she had died.
I feel both luckily and surreal about knowing someone who had these experiences and being with someone while they actually had them. They certainly weren't mystical to me, there was nothing that stood out as particularly impressive and I've certainly been left with more questions than answers. But considering the nature of the forum I thought I would share with everyone.
