It isn't a guess for the billions of beings who can observe it from any view they desire.

Seems to me that Flat Earth belief has been given more publicity than it deserves probably due to the fact that skeptics love to use it to create a category. So anything that they wish to dismiss or ridicule gets to reside in the Flat Earth category, per the example given in this thread by Paul.

I have to admit that I have never read anything coming from the "believers" because I always thought it was some kind of satirical device - that nobody seriously believed the Earth is flat.

I think it’s possible to promote ideas because they’re fun and mischievous rather than a strong belief that they represent the truth of the matter. Trolling rational skeptics can be so much fun.

I don't know what role Christian fundamentalism played in your country, here though it does have a strong current. I've personally known persons that took the Bible literally. One might be stupified that anyone would argue for a flat Earth but I can assure you there are people that would.
