Alert when particular person posts

Laird (or anyone who knows),

Is it possible to get an alert when a named member - such as Sciborg_s_Patel - starts a new thread? I wonder vaguely if "Add to Buddy List" will do the trick.
I don't think it's currently possible. I've just done a bit of searching of the MyBB Community Forums and can't find an extension there that provides this feature either.

Perhaps you'd be interested in turning your coding mind to MyBB plugin development and implement a plugin for this? After all, you've written a compiler in the past - a MyBB plugin should be a piece of cake for you!

The trouble is that compiler still needs maintenance, so I am very reluctant to try to stuff another large piece of code into my brain!

As a slight aside, I was wondering What exactly does a buddy list do?

It doesn't seem to me at least to do anything very useful apart from blocking of PMs from non-buddies. It isn't something I've ever used.

I think that if you think you are likely to be PMing somebody a lot, it makes them easier to find.  Apart from that, I don't know.
Yep, the buddy list isn't that useful in practical terms. Other than the two features you guys mention, right now, adding a buddy seems to be more of a symbolic thing. (And the feature @Typoz mentions isn't currently even applicable to Psience Quest because MyConversations, which replaces the core PM system, doesn't support it).
