Perhaps some of those speculations better explain other cases. In any case, we can still ask "Why are they here? What is their intent?" Those do seem like useful questions to explore.

Good point. However, it seems to me the question of why are they coming here would logically come after attempting to answer the even more basic question of "what is their actual nature as apparent beings?" And it seems to me that the "why?" (and also maybe even the "what?") questions may most likely be unanswerable by us because these beings are quite evidently so vastly ahead of us in all ways that we aren't likely to even be able to imagine their motivations. An analogy might be the fruitlessness of a tribe of monkeys trying to speculate on why strange beings (human scientists) are seen occasionally spying on them with strange objects (they are cameras, fundamentally incomprehensible to the monkeys, as is the science that motivates the human researchers).
