Punishment is no ideal

I might add though that perhaps from my perspective, I see the possibility of repercussions in terms of cause and effect, where the materialist might draw a solid line and consider things from a more blinkered perspective. Equally one might argue, some traditional religions might hand over responsibility to some higher power, and also see no such repercussions.

Perhaps what I'm saying might be considered in a similar light to environmentalism. We have concern for the planetary environment in a forward-looking way, I'm suggesting that we should be concerned in a similar manner with the spiritual environment, right here on this planet, in a forward-looking way.

The difficulty is inflicting a faith based principle on those who don't have faith.  I would never advocate for Christian principles to be made law, though I believe that Christ will return and do just that but then he knows what he is doing.  I couldn't trust a christian to interpret christian principles anyway!  Having said that, maybe looking to various spiritual and religious ideas can help us where force and psychology have failed.  Maybe you are thinking along the right lines.

I don't see my ideas as inflicting anything. A lot of what I suggest is in line with those who (say they) have no faith. There are areas of overlap.

I guess I'm not trying to advocate for something unrealistic or separate from real-world practice, only that those who are able to might lift up their gaze from the ground a little and extend their vision towards the horizon. Many real-world problems we face, collectively, are a result of coming up with short-term solutions to long-term problems.

In particular, though I mentioned in a previous post the possibility of reincarnation, I wouldn't want that to distract or confuse what I'm saying. In my view, how we deal with judicial matters over short timescales such as a couple of weeks or a few months don't require anyone to embrace ideas which might be out of step with their worldview. These short-timescale acts have visible repercussions. I only suggest that we should not consider things over a longer timescale as any less worthy of our consideration.
