openMMIND project searching for beta testers

22 Replies, 2401 Views

I’m a researcher (experimental physics) with interest in exotic fields.

I will launch soon a personal project I have been developing in the last 3 years: openMMIND project (open-source Man-to-Machine Interaction based on raNDom phenomena measurement), which comprises an open platform for serious scientific research, collaboration, data sharing and possibly useful tools to take advantage from telekinesis, for everyone.

The first phase of the project consists in a simple video game that reads true random numbers generated by hardware in modern intel CPUs. In this way, the player might become immersed in the game influencing it through the random number generator. Since all data is saved in a txt in real time, anomalies in the stream of random numbers could be later investigated. Machine learning techniques might unveil subtle patterns hidden in data.

I will explain better this project soon, but now I need a few volunteers to test the software, allowing me to make some preliminary analyses on their data to see if there any bug in the code. If you have a Windows computer (it might also work in a virtual machine) with an Intel CPU newer than 2012 please see the post below with more information.

If you have any doubt, please ask in this thread.

here is the information you need to test the software:
The game is based on the classic snake, but here some food are bombs, which may explode based on the RNG output. Each gaming session will last approximately 5 min (depending on your gaming skills and chosen settings).
The application will close by itself when the session ends, you SHOUD NOT end it.

The application can be download from here https://drive.google.com/file/d/11su-N0f...sp=sharing

To start the game run openMMIND_sk.exe You can opt for 3 different speed levels, you must choose the one that is more comfortable for you, in such way you lose mostly because of the explosions rather than the collisions. The default is moderate. There are 2 different mods, telekinesis and precognition, in the first you start immediately disarming the bomb, in the second you need to press “R” to start. Chose the one you prefer.

To move the snake, you can use your keyboard arrows, or W A S D, or I J K L. Data is saved in the “data” folder. You can open the txt files and see your data if you want, but you CANNOT modify or delete anything, except in the proper field (observations and email). If for some reason the application is closed before the session end, do not delete the respective data file.

There is encrypted data in txt files to ensure no files are deleted or modified. You should perform at least 30 sessions (30 txt files), then send me  the data folder (zipped) for my e-mail: openmmind.carlos@gmail.com

Since this project is open source, the code of the application will be public when launched. However, for the beta program, if you are afraid that the application contains a virus you may check it with your antivirus, or in a virus checking service like virustotal.com

Since this is a first post from a new member, firstly I bid you welcome to our forum.

I'm not really a game-player. However I downloaded the file and ran it through a virus scanner - no problems. So far I didn't actually install or try to run it. Also I need to check whether my computer has the required CPU hardware, it is a fairly recent laptop with Intel processor.

Is there an easy way to check the hardware requirements are met?

But I'm also a little cautious about stepping into something potentially risky which is why I didn't yet install/run anything.

I really hope this turns out to be a valuable project, it covers a number of areas of interest frequently discussed by members here.

Hi Typoz,

thank you very much for your interest, I come to this forum not only to gather beta testers, but also to find people that may want to collaborate with this project in the future (for now it is only me).

you don't need to install anything, only run the .exe, if your compute do not have the true random number generator you will get a message in the application. Any way, after playing a session you may check if the random data (1s and 0s) is saved in the output data file. You may use these files to make your own analysis, but send me also these data, please.

If you PC supports it, you will be able to play. This is a very simple game, it should be easy for non-players too.
I believe a more immersive experience can boost any possible anomaly in random data. In addition, a game is less boring for people produce data.

If you are afraid of running the app you can do it in a virtual machine (I'm not sure if it will work).

in future I will provide the source code, so people will be able to make their own modifications, and compile the application.

Along with Typoz's greeting: welcome to the forum!

Unfortunately, I was unable to use your application - which is probably expected, because my operating system is not Windows but Linux. I tried several means of running it: Wine, and three different versions of Windows running under VirtualBox. Here are the results:

  1. Wine: The application ran, albeit sluggishly, however, the snake did not respond to key presses: neither the arrows nor W A S D, or I J K L (Edit: actually, it does sometimes respond to a key press and change direction, but very rarely). It did at least produce a data file which appeared to have genuinely random data in it.
  2. Windows 7 64-bit under VirtualBox: The application ran, however its window was transparent and showed only the desktop behind it [edit: which then became fixed and did not change even when the window was moved around].
  3. Windows 7 32-bit under VirtualBox: On running the application, an error dialogue popped up: "The program can't start because VCRUNTIME140.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem."
  4. Windows XP under VirtualBox: On running the application, an error dialogue popped up: "[Path to]\openMMIND_sk_v0.6.4\openMMIND_sk.exe is not a valid Win32 application."

Hi Laird,

I'm very happy to have found this forum, where I believe I will find people interested in collaborating in this project Smile

thank you for your detailed report. So far I only tested the application in native windows 10. I'm not sure it will work in windows 7, anyone have a windows 7 PC that can try it?

I will try to compile a simplified version of the application to linux, and I will test it in my ubuntu. The problem is that a large part of the code helps avoiding data manipulation that users can do. So that if a data file is edited or deleted I will detect it through the analysis of encrypted data that is also wrote in these files.
And this code only work on widows.

But if I do a version without this additional security, it may be possible to compile for linux. I will try it.

Meanwhile, I'm also searching for collaborators for the project, any help will be welcome.
Now we need to get beta testers
Then make a preliminary analysis of data to detect bugs in the code (I will do this)
do anyone here have solid knowledge in statistics to help in data analysis?

cheers

Chris here on this forum usually seems able to discuss statistics. Only he can say whether or not he would be able to assist.

I'd be happy to try.

thank you very for your help

my knowledge on these kind of subjects is very limited, I hope your expertise could help us to develop a solid research and provide the tools so that people worldwide can carry out their own experiments.

As far as I know and also from my personal experience, telekinesis/precognition seems to fail often when the scientific verification process is rigorous, yet in small experiments or even personal ones the results challenge any typical explanation. There seems also to be a strong impact of people skepticism in results. If the telekinesis/precognition phenomenon is actually real, these are probably the main reasons why it is rejected by scientific community and most people. It is hard to make serious science in such conditions.

One of the key goals of the openMMIND project is to bring to everyone the possibility to test by themselves. Perhaps it may help reducing this (hypothetical) negative impact of skepticism.

In this first phase of the experiment I also intend to see if joining people together with similar “abilities” will boost the results. I mean, we make a first run, and then we separate people with opposite results in two groups (one with negative p-values and the other with positive p-values). Next, the experiment is repeated, and we verify if the two groups (previously defined) still deliver statistically significant different results.

I hope you enjoy the application, it is very simple (adapted from another person code, I will provide the respective credits in future). I’m not a developer, my programing skills come from scientific data analysis. In future we need to make this remote (like a web application) to avoid any possible hacking, and also bringing it to smartphones. Using a remote radioactive source is also a possibility, I can provide it since I’m a nuclear physicist.

perhaps I will need time to get this working on other platforms, because I'm not an application developer.

for now, could you please try the following .exe files ? which I compiled with compatibility options
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1fE31Tmj...sp=sharing
you can try them on all of your VMs and Wine

you may also try to change the compatibility options when you open the exe on windows (right mouse > properties > compatibility tab)

on Wine, I suspect there the problem is related to the Wine
for instance, I found this workaround https://askubuntu.com/questions/723295/w...ase-gaming

I hope you can get it working
