Ever seen Altered States?  Again, not to be taken too seriously but very very trippy!

Not sure whether I've seen it, perhaps it was on TV and I half-watched it - which isn't any sort of judgement on its quality, I may have had other things on my mind.

Yes, I saw it about a year ago. My sentiments echo yours - an entertaining watch but not to be taken too seriously. I'm not big on action films, but when they have a higher concept beyond the action, and when they're done right, as this one was, I can enjoy them.
