John Cleese and Life after Death

I've always been a fan of Cleese and I'm happy to hear about his interest in evidence for consciousness survival. According to this interview, he may be working on a new series or something similar presenting evidence for survival. I can only imagine this will be controversial, but it hopefully means the evidence will enter the mainstream. He's typically a very well-respected guy, unlike Gwenyth Paltrow. 

"My private project, which I haven't told anyone about, [is] I think there is life after death," he tells me over the phone from London. "I don't know anything in detail, but I've seen enough evidence that something goes on, certainly for some people, after they die."

He cites the writings of Bruce Greyson, Professor Emeritus at the University of Virginia and an expert in the field of near-death experiences, as a major influence on his views.

"Once you start reading about that, you begin to realise it may be that consciousness is not produced by the brain," he says. "The brain is like a transmitter. It picks stuff up like a television set; the program's not made inside the set. You see what I mean? If you think the brain might operate more like that, it explains a lot of things that ordinary science can't explain.

"I would like to do a TV series, trying to get people to open up to the idea of a life after death. Nothing to do with religion at all, purely to do with science. Because I think if people feel that something goes on after death, it makes life itself more meaningful."

I agree with him but not just on life after death or rather a continuation of consciousness but his views on what's going on at the moment. Would be great though to see him host a documentary series to present "the evidence" !

I find Cleese a bit pompous tbh. He wouldn’t be my first choice as an advocate. Just don’t  mention Jehovah.

I think the upheaval we are going through is causing many to challenge the status quo in so many ways and ways of thinking that were once considered cranky are now becoming mainstream so this might be well timed.

Sorry I'm not able to see the silver lining as yet.  As one who has followed the material related to survival over a long period of time, I'm not any more or less convinced than I was ten years ago. Also I'm not finding the new appeals to physics and philosophy on the nature of consciousness (Kastrup,Hoffman . . .) of much help - although interesting.  I'm still waiting for Parnia although I'm not sure I will live that long

Admittedly but that's just life.  If I pointed out how wonderful nature is, somebody could say, "yes but there are also ugly cities."  It doesn't change the facts about nature.  The world is a rough place and always will be.  I don't wish to lose hope because of it.

No, I didn't say he would be my first choice either, Obiwan but I like his take on woke. I don't like the concept of woke (victim culture) but I don't want to start an argument about it.

Honestly, even if Cleese did make some sort of series or film, I question whether it would get as much attention as we'd hope. He never mentioned anything about his belief in life after death on his Twitter from what I can tell, and I doubt that attention will be too positive. 

A recent example of something suggesting this may be the case is the documentary by Caroline Cory titled Superhuman: The Invisible Made Visible. It wasn't released on that many major streaming services (Amazon Prime and ITunes apparently) and, to my knowledge, had very little to no advertising. On Rotten Tomatoes, it received only 2 reviews, one positive and one negative. According to the website, Dean Radin, Tom Campbell and Eben Alexander were all involved in some way (the negative review doesn't mention much about these figures for some reason). However, it apparently decides to interview random actors and actresses as well, which seems pointless to me. It'll probably take quite a long time for it to get more attention.

According to the positive review, some of the claims and 'experiments' in the documentary might raise a few eyebrows. Caroline Cory has appeared on New Thinking Allowed recently though.
