Jeffrey Mishlove interviewed by a hardscore skeptic

A friendly enough discussion/debate from March: Is Parapsychology Real?

The host's remarks and questions can be a bit naive at times, but it still leads to interesting exchanges:

I'm about halfway through this, Ian, and I'm struggling to finish it because the dynamic is kind of embarrassing to watch. That dynamic - not entirely, but for the most part - as I see it is this:

Jeffrey: [Some insightful thoughts on parapsychology or consciousness]

TJump: Oh, absolutely [polite facade of concession], but from a rational perspective, aren't you wrong? [the subtext that overwhelms the polite facade] And can you see how cool, calm, and collected I'm being as I politely point this out to you?

[Rinse and repeat]

OK, I finished it. To counterbalance the above view that I expressed: it is at least encouraging to see a polite exchange between a "proponent" and a "skeptic", regardless of what one might think of the subtext.

A polite exchange with basically zero meaning is not really a useful exchange.

There’s a huge difference between (dishonest in my opinion)chit chat and heartfelt emotional connection.

It’s fooling ourselves that progress is being made.

I don’t necessarily know how to improve things, but once again, I feel honest exchanges would be a start. I’m not saying they’re actually telling untruths, but their heart is not behind the connection, that is what is dishonest about it.

See my next post for update... Smile
Oh my God, I hate all this.   Surprise

I wrote my previous post on this thread solely on the strength of Lairds post #3.

I enjoyed the vid more than I thought I would.

Having now watched the video I must adjust my previous view. I think there is a sort of zombie tennis going on, which I think is why I called the conversation dishonest before. However the dishonesty is not of as harsh a character as I might have presumed. I personally think I could enjoy the company of both these people for a limited period, probably Jeffrey would be more interesting for me, as I usually agree with what he says.

The difference of opinions between them ought not to make a big difference, but I can see how it might. That Jeffrey has the intellect and of more importance, the total self confidence in his stance to defend his position, is both rare and a pleasure to witness. He never appears to get emotional. It’s not so much a defence of his stance, but a stating of his reality as he sees it. I don’t believe Jeff is that bothered by what the other guy thinks. That’s what takes the sting out of the conversation.

I wish I had that confidence.

Agreed. He's quite remarkable. He doesn't take anything personally or get defensive or become antagonistic at all, just goes about speaking his truth with integrity.

Yes that's definitely what I most admire about Jeffrey as well.

What does this arrogant young man have to offer that's so irresistible to these various guests? I find his ever present smirk quite irritating, personally, almost as though he can barely prevent himself from bursting out laughing at the absurdity of what Mishlove is telling him. (although of course that may just be his natural look which he is comfortable with). I like Jeffery but I don't think he needs to talk to people like this. It needed posting though.

Possibly, in the case of Mishlove, he'll be open to any invitation if it means making psi known to the wider public. Just a guess.

Don't you think the comment he made above kind of tells us something, though ? Parapsychology is commensurate with a belief in elves, gnomes and fairies. I mean that is pretty pathetic even by the standards of some of the worst of the herd.
