Quote:Original ideas are good. But they have to be backed up with evidence.
Why? Isn't there value in developing original ideas? I certainly think there is. I think lots of people go through their entire lives without coming up with even one original idea.

Look at science fiction for only one example. People riffing odd ideas ad nauseum. Some of those ideas have become reality.

There is value but there has to be some evidence to back them up

Good example but there was demonstrable evidence through replication and experiment to back those (ideas) up and make them happen.

I'm kind of nit-picking, but kind of not. I believe there is value in original ideas even if there is not evidence to back them up. Simply the fact that an original idea exists is in itself a thing of beauty. It needn't be a "true" or provable idea in order to have value. I'm not just talking about ideas surrounding psi. I'm talking about every original idea.

"Simply the fact that an original idea exists is in itself a thing of beauty."

I can think of some original ideas that weren't things of beauty. The atomic bomb for instance..

I may be in the minority, but I have a lot of respect for MAX_B and his ideas.

You are right.

I guess I was just amazed that there were so many comments that had no bearing to whether the brain was involved. I'll remove...

If you actually want to have a conversation with someone about a topic, then it is probably best to leave out comments like:

"Honestly- I feel like am having a discussion with a 7 year old."

I don't need to go into the psychology of such remarks. But it is unflattering at best.

At heart I am discouraged in general at the way that comments like that and otherwise petty squabbling about specific personalities undermine the community here.

MAX_B is someone who has always been a part of this community who is a genuine original thinker. He isn't regurgitating repackaged theosophy ad nasueum--he is actually thinking about the nature of reality and formulating ideas. We should be encouraging that practice and trying to attract others of the same ilk.
Oh stop.. It's not the end of the world. I agreed and fixed.

As to the actual content of the posts. I stick by 100%.

Around that age, it varies, you begin to forget who you really are which sets the stage for the learning experiences (remembering is one of them) of this incarnation. In a very direct way, you did see the 'world' (yourself) more clearly.

You hate knives too? How about sharp sticks? Or cucumbers whittled into spears? It isn't the object, it's the use of it that may suck.

Nothing is invalid. If you have an idea, regardless of how you obtained it, then you have shown that the idea is real or you could not have thought of it in the first place, you cannot imagine what does not already exist.
