Another nearly normal man without a brain

From Quora: In 2007 in France, a 44-year-old man went to the doctor complaining of numbness in his leg and underwent a brain CT scan that revealed a shocking truth:

That man didn't have 90% of his brain. The skull was almost entirely filled with cerebrospinal fluid and all that remained of the brain was a thin peripheral portion surrounding the skull. You can plainly see this from the X-ray images below:

"Yet that man, whose IQ was below average (IQ 75), had been leading a normal life for years: he was married, had two children, a job and was obviously aware of himself, he moved, laughed, loved and ultimately he lived."

This certainly isn't the first example of this phenomenon, but the reaction to it below only goes to show the entrenched physicalist neuroscientific bias among scientific and medical workers in this field.

Quote:This case of a French man who lived a normal life until the age of 44 without 90% of his brain demonstrated to science a fact that had until then been unknown, namely that just 10% of the brain tissue is sufficient to re-elaborate a “theory of the self” and to make that person a man in all respects.

The article writer didn't dare (or more likely it didn't occur to him because he was brainwashed into the materialist neuroscience model) to suggest that this sort of occurence is plainly evidence that the mind and consciousness are probably not simply a function of the brain, which conclusion inevitably leads to having to consider some sort of interactive dualism theory of mind and matter. Taboo thoughts.

It's not clear evidence that the production theory is wrong and a functional dualism of some sort is true...but it is suggestive of that when put in tandem with other stuff like Sudden Savants and Terminal Lucidity...
'Historically, we may regard materialism as a system of dogma set up to combat orthodox dogma...Accordingly we find that, as ancient orthodoxies disintegrate, materialism more and more gives way to scepticism.'
