I'm not sure that I even consider that to be classical music. Maybe "unclassically classical"? It's too hypnotically percussive to be "classically classical". Given the music's percussive tendencies, it's unsurprising that its video is hosted on the channel of a manufacturer of drum sticks. Given my own percussive tendencies, it's probably not surprising that I really, really like this piece. Great find, Max, albeit that you weren't exactly promoting or even recommending it!

OT: I agree with your comment on the first piece (400 odd YT views - so not mainstream LOL). I think Reich's piece has something in common with electronic/dance/ambient... But I get tired after a couple of minutes of it. There's plenty more like that from Reich.

I can get on with some classical ambient minimalism with tonality and harmonics like this piece from Skempton which has some beautiful ancient choral chord sequences.

You might like some of Thomas Ades work (I do like some of it), more tonality and actually goes somewhere (vs Reich)

We shall not cease from exploration
And the end of all our exploring
Will be to arrive where we started
And know the place for the first time.

Maybe people will actually learn to play instruments again!

My first love was music, a form of escapism from the bleakness (mostly the grey skies/grey architechture/youth gangs) of the UK during my teenage years. Performing it actually. Guitar. Bass. Drums.

Music allows humans from all backgrounds to communicate beyond their differences. It's the one thing that I think genuinely allows us all to connect in some way or another, on a spiritual level. Think of it like an easy way for humans/the masses to experience something beyond 'themselves'. All sorts of impressions/emotions can be easily had from music in an accessible form.

AI music is interesting. It may be the latest fad and will take the industry by storm for a while. But I don't forsee it being a major player in the long term. Humans simply need some form of connection and music "created" by AI won't satisfy IMO.

Ah, Van Halen fan from your youth perhaps?  (Diver Down being interpretable in a few ways!)

Kind of obvious. Wink

Haha! Indeed Silence, he was one of my guitar heroes. I was never really into the virtuosos (more of a The Edge kinda guy with soundscapes etc), but he was one of the few I liked a lot. Fantastic tone, fabulously talented guy.

It's also a reference to my love of scuba diving Wink

I think it's very interesting that only humans create music. For example, I used to "get" ideas that came from "nowhere" when trying to write songs with my band. Suddenly I would have a killer lick and it totally was what was needed for the song at that point, and you could tell because the lads suddenly perk up and get excited by it. You can create amazing amounts of energy playing together in a band!

I think I prefer the original version of the piece that you posted, with classical instruments, although I still find this version with more electronic sounds to be very pleasing in its hypnotic percussiveness.

I like that one too. It's swelling and soulful.

I don't, at least judging by those two pieces. They sound to me like frenzied discord.

The Rick Beato video in the opening post of this thread probably had some effect because now the fake McCartney/Lennon/Beatles songs I indicated in post no 2 are either "private" or have been struck by copyright notices (which is part of what Beato raised as an issue!). These videos were using solo Beatle songs with added AI, but it would be interesting to see if there'd be a copyright notice by the same company (UMG say) against a non-UMG artist video importing an AI Beatle voice.

Yeah I think slowly Disney and other visual giants are becoming aware of AI art gen as well.

I know personally it was quite easy to get copyrighted images from AI art gen*, so long as you know what to look for. I hope a lot of these AI art gen companies are going wake entertainment "sleeping giants" that will help the "little guy" artists that were stolen from.

*For example "Paul Pope clown" or some variant thereof gives you a comic panel of the Joker, rather than a clown in the style of the artist Paul Pope. This is because Pope has drawn Batman comics in the past. Guessing the copyright lawyers with additional degrees in Comp Sci will be able to dig even deeper than what I found in a matter of minutes.
'Historically, we may regard materialism as a system of dogma set up to combat orthodox dogma...Accordingly we find that, as ancient orthodoxies disintegrate, materialism more and more gives way to scepticism.'

I don't know if Elton John is a UMG artist (must be because almost everyone is!) but yeah there's a McCartney "cover", and actually there's a ton of them.

Even some of the ones I posted in post no 2 have reappeared in another guise. They won't be able to control this. Like Napster.
