So, I don't think it really hurts Physicalism at all, as they've never been shy to redefine terms, control public perception through journals and publications, and threaten the careers of anyone who dares think outside the assigned box.
Because, frankly, as one Max Planck put it:
“A new scientific truth does not triumph by convincing its opponents and making them see the light, but rather because its opponents eventually die, and a new generation grows up that is familiar with it.”
I'm a pessimist when it comes to the scientific establishment, as they move incredibly slowly to change any perceived fundamentals. There's far too much stagnation, for all of the claims that "science evolves with new data", when it moves more like snail.
Even ten years ago the pluralism of metaphysical positions in academia would largely be confined to a few people like Sheldrake who were pinned as "cranks", or with people like David Bohm / Turing / Godel / Einstein / etc their support for Psi, a Non-Physicalist metaphysics, and/or Survival would be buried.
Even Irreducible Mind says that the Physicalist position would only be defeated if there was a thorough investigation of the brain and there was no forthcoming explanation of consciousness. That's probably at least half a century away, but in the meantime the defeat of the neuronal position in favor the quantum biology position would help advocates for Psi at the very least.
But there have been, over the years, a few quantum biology arguments for Dualism as well as general QM interpretations that are Idealist / Dualist / Panpsychist / Neural Monist / etc.
The neuronal level position offers little to the proponent, the quantum biology position at least offers something. Or that's my more optimistic take, and I'm relatively confident the correlates for consciousness do involve natural selection exploiting QM level behaviors in some way.
