I can’t see how terminal lucidly would “disconfirm” the transducer theory. Could you elaborate?

In the transducer theory of mind/brain relationship, the degree of consciousness exhibited by the person would depend on the condition of the brain's innumerable neuronal structures (which constitute the "transceiver" of the spirit "signal"). Terminal lucidity occurs when the person is in deep dementia caused by extensive disorganization and damage of the brain due to physical disease processes. The transducer theory would predict that this person couldn't experience terminal lucidity, since normal mental function would require the brain transducer or transceiver be in good condition. So on the face of it, without an auxiliary hypothesis this is a disconfirmation of the transducer theory. I suggested such an auxiliary hypothesis, that the spirit intervenes in order to temporarily heal or repair the extensive brain damage caused for instance by Alzheimer's, in order for the victim to be aware and communicate during his last moments. |
