Worth Checking Out

Just a quick visit, slightly breaking my self-imposed exile (the world goes on out there and I still notice things relevant to this forum). So, no opinion or argument here but rather a recommendation to take a look at two sources of information new to me.

Firstly, Federico Faggin, it turns out, was behind some of the most advanced technology I have worked on during my career in computers yet I have only just heard of him. And the reason I have heard of him now has nothing to do with that technology but to do with consciousness and spirituality. I'll let him explain.

Secondly, I became aware of Faggin while listening to a podcast interview with Dr. Ed Kelly and the podcast itself is also new to me. So if you are feeling somewhat jaded after years of Skeptiko, perhaps this might be an alternative:

I do not make any clear distinction between mind and God. God is what mind becomes when it has passed beyond the scale of our comprehension.

Thank you for posting this. Fascinating. I learned a lot from it. What an interesting person.

It seems I was late to the party with my post as I subsequently came across a much earlier thread on Federico Faggin started by Michael Larkin. My apologies.

There's even a reply from myself in that earlier thread. Such is the sieve-like nature of my ageing memory.

I wouldn’t apologise, it was worth repeating.

I shouldn't worry -- I did the same kind of thing myself on a thread either here or at Skeptiko recently due to my own ageing memory. I hope I haven't already posted this, but here's a recent interesting discussion between Faggin and Frenkin that I think gets better as it progresses:

Here's an even better video that has enabled me to see more clearly where Federico is coming from. I started the initial thread in some confusion as to whether his ideas were compatible with Bernardo Kastrup's version of Idealism, but think I now see they largely are.

It would be most interesting to be able to see a discussion between Faggin, Kastrup and Donald Hoffman where they might explore the similarities and differences between their points of view. One thing I think I can definitely say is that they are all pursuing the idea of the primacy of consciousness, Faggin and Hoffman in a mainly scientific/mathematical way, and Bernardo in a rather more philosophical way (though he's no slouch when it comes to science); both Faggin and Kastrup seem also to be exploring the spiritual aspects of their views.

They all seem to be agreeing that the apparently concrete perception of matter + 3D + time is an illusion: this being just the way we represent to ourselves "things in themselves" (whatever they might be) as Kant might have put it.
