Roundo: our new mobile-friendly theme, proposed to be set as default

I can certainly relate to the low-contrast text pointed out by @Max_B .

Though I've helped to test certain aspects of the Roundo theme, I hadn't mentioned the text contrast as displays and user eyesight and taste can vary a great deal.

Personally I mostly prefer a darker theme and yes, high-contrast though the solutions I have apply to a Windows PC and Android mobile devices. For example the default browser on my Android phone has a simple toggle to set dark or light mode. On the pc I use a browser plugin called 'Dark Reader'.

The Roundo layout is very different, it took me time to figure out where everything was - but for a new user or visitor passing through I can't tell which would be easiest to use.

As i mentioned to Laird, I mostly prefer the current default theme, because I normally use a larger-screen and the Roundo layout may suit small screens better - perhaps.

I get what you're saying. Do you have any suggested changes that we could make to these colours/fonts that would both improve readability and not degrade the look and feel?

I don't know about the navigation/editing links, as the very light grey seems to define them as clickable, vs unclickable text which is darker. The pastel blue for links however, that could just be a darker blue. The background to the post, preview and draft buttons at the bottom when replying, (and page numbers) appears more contrasty, but that might just be subjective due to the large amount of area.

as my eyes get older... they don't see as well :-)

OK, you've both been heard: I've created a slightly restyled version of the theme to take account of these readability/contrast issues. The changes I've made are to (1) set link text colour to the same colour as the background to the post/preview buttons, and (2) darken the text colour of the navigation (breadcrumb) items. You can see these changes by selecting the "Roundo Light (Testing/Staging)" theme. What do you guys think?

Just adding my tuppenceworth ... the new UI is, for me, much better. One of my biggest problems with the regular UI is that it is not consistent across different platforms. With the new one, it looks just about the same on my phone, my iPad and my desktop PC.

So thumbs up from me.

This theme is intended to work for everybody, so if it isn't working for you to the point that you have switched back to the default, then let's keep on making adjustments until it does work for you. I'm about to work on a feature request for a job for a client, and then have some correspondence to finish, but after that I'll try to increase the text size, and find thicker fonts to switch to. Please recommend any that you think would work if you can. Also, let me know how we can improve the contrast for you in any other way(s) that you need.

I switched us from Roboto to the DejaVu Sans font, increased the darkness of most text, and increased by a few pixels the size of most text. Again, choose the "Roundo Light (Staging/Testing)" theme to see these changes. What do folk think? @Max_B in particular, are you tempted back?
