Often as I'm falling asleep I see a jumble of words in handwriting using the Cyrillic script, which I can't read but it was the way my father used to write in his native language. It seems I'm not intended to actually read the text, the meaning if any, is in what it represents. Though I often see incredibly sharp and colourful images of physical artefacts such as decorated or man-made objects at that time, (before sleep) which seem more intense than things I see when I'm normally awake.

A better ABC production on lucid dreaming:
'As real as waking life' — exploring lucid dreams, an approx 29 minute podcast on the subject. Very revealing. [Oops, I mistakenly posted this in the "text resources" thread; moved to the "multimedia resources" thread.]

I've watched a couple of recently-posted videos on Out of Body Experiences.
This first one is spoken in German, with proper English subtitles. Mr. Sündermann talks about how he was later able to validate the experience, though it is not the most detailed or elaborate case in that respect. The Out-of-Body Experience of Mr. Lothar Sündermann This one is for me more interesting. it has a spoken English translation. Ms. Zürcher starts off by describing her own surprise and discomfort at having a spontaneous OBE, and telephoned her doctor at 3am, who could only advise her to pour herself a strong alcoholic drink. Subsequently she had many more spontaneous out of body experiences, and her validation of the factual accuracy of her experience is impressive. There is more as well, since she had numerous such experiences over the years. The Out-of-Body Experiences of Ms. Zürcher

One thing which did stand out about the experience of Mr. Sündermann above. He was alone during the entire occurrence, and was able to observe from positions and perspectives where he had never been before. He could not have been picking up the visual observations of any other person, since there was no-one at else there. It had some aspects of an NDE, particularly when he was asked to return to his body.
The events described by Ms. Zürcher include a description of the silver cord, which has a long history in OOBE events, but often is not mentioned at all. She encountered some so-called deceased people too, but it is not quite the same as an NDE since her experiences are not related to any physical or other danger - at least in this world. She also describes encounters with some hostile beings and her struggles with them. Though she finds herself being protected, she does advise caution for anyone attempting bring about their own OOBE.

The Out-of-Body Experiences of Ms. Melitta Kosmann Quote:As a young woman, Ms. Melitta Kosmann had an out-of-body experience that she could never forget. But even later, she continued to have out-of-body experiences. In this interview she talks about her imposing experiences.

From a perspective of my own experiences, I wouldn't say my parallel self experiences, along with experiences of other realms or entities, felt particularly... out-of-body. Maybe I'm just not aware of it? It's like I'm sensing it through my mind, not that I have detached from my body. It's like it becomes grounded in my physical body, somehow... or maybe I'm just so weighed down that I can't properly detach from my body? Ah, sorry, I'm rambling, but it did get me thinking. Thanks for the fascinating post.

I had one or two experiences myself, so I do like to hear about experiences such as those in the video. Personally, though I have only a few such occurrences, I've usually felt I was located not so much inside or outside my body, more like I completely disregarded my physical body during the experience and was only aware of myself in whatever location I found myself. Sometimes I definitely felt like I had a body, with arms and legs, and it was a shock on arriving back in my physical body to realise that its posture was completely different, for example arms stretched out during the OOBE but by my side in the physical. In one case there was a feeling I can no longer recall accurately, a sense perhaps of liberation and also of enhanced awareness, but the body was not even noticed, perhaps there was none, or maybe it was unimportant.
