Local psychic credited with finding missing woman

When Marlene Martin, an 84-year-old Wilson woman, was reported missing the night of May 21, Juanita Szafranski kicked in to action.

A nearly lifelong “evidential medium” and head of Lockport Psychic Investigations, Szafranski has been involved in dozens of searches for missing persons, and claimed to have provided crucial information that led to locating the person in numerous cases.

Within hours, Szafranski had reached out to the Martin family, and offered to assist in the search for Marlene, who was last seen at bingo at the Elks Lodge No. 41, 6791 N. Canal Road.

Early the next morning, less than 12 hours into the search, Szafranski located Martin in a forest north of the lodge. Martin had an eye injury — possibly scraped by a tree-branch — but otherwise she was unhurt.

Martin’s family shudders to think of what might have happened had Szafranski not gotten involved.

“If it wasn’t for her, I probably would never have found my mom,” said Tammy, Martin’s daughter, adding, “She didn’t know me, she didn’t know my family. She just did out of the goodness of her heart.”
