Mirror-touch synaesthesia

Mirror-touch synaesthesia is a condition in which when someone sees someone else being touched, they themselves feel as though they are being touched. (The name apparently comes from experiments in which amputees are shown a mirror-image of their remaining limb being touched, and experience sensation in the limb that has been amputated.)

That much is recognised by mainstream science and has been investigated experimentally. But Maureen Seaberg, a synaesthete and a blogger for Psychology Today, wrote last year that when giving a presentation at a school, she was able to tell members of the audience the locations of pains they were experiencing, without the help of visual information. Obviously that would go beyond the province of conventional science:

Really interesting, considering that psychology today isn't focused on psi effects and the likes.

Well, Psychology Today does seem to have quite an eclectic collection of bloggers. Courtesy of the SPR Facebook page, Sharon Hewitt Rawlette has just started a blog entitled "Mysteries of Consciousness" there, whose theme is "[taking] consciousness seriously as the organizing principle of our world":

Perhaps Psi. Just needs to to be rebranded?
What I find interesting is that this blog seems to have good references. A good science teacher, respected too, and a competent neuroscientist. it's not some people claiming superpowers in their homes without anybody looking at them, very interesting.
