Longtime pilot photographs mysterious orange orb in daytime sky over NC mountains

“Good luck getting a definitive answer on this one,” he added.

Carolinas a UFO hotbed

The Carolinas are a well-documented hotbed of UFO sightings.

One recent study had Charlotte beaming itself up into the ranking of the top 10 largest North American cities for total UFO sightings in the past century, the Observer previously reported.

Cases like this one are far less ‘provable’ as UFO cases go imo. What I mean is that the orange orb, being seen by one person is very far from say the Travis Walton incident as interesting evidence. I’m not suggesting that what he saw wasn’t unusual, it almost certainly was, it might well have been something associated with extra-terrestrials, but equally might have been a
some unusual natural phenomena.

At 88years old what is his eyesight like? To state heights of some unknown object as being 30000 - 40000ft is extremely dubious, you need to have some idea of the scale involved, to be able to make a judgement of height.

With some reports I think it comes down to either the person lying or delusional or else it points very much to other life existing. Incidents such as this one are much more open to imagination/interpretation imo.

Still worth knowing about.
Oh my God, I hate all this.   Surprise

I've raised similar questions over estimated heights/distances before. If we're looking at a familiar object such as a house or a tree or a car, or a person, we can estimate their distance (and altitude?!) because we know their size. But when it comes to something with no familiar characteristics, we can't deduce much of anything. Errors can occur in both directions, small objects such as Chinese lanterns may be described as something much larger and further away, while something like the ISS, orbiting in space hundreds of miles above, may be described as nearly touching the rooftops or treetops nearby.
