Link previews enabled for YouTube videos and Twitter statuses

As indicated in my response to Valmar's request for a YouTube video previewer in the "Free will re-redux" thread, I've enabled two of my Link Tools plugin's link previewers, which have the effect of (1) auto-embedding YouTube vids when bare links to them are posted, and (2) auto-embedding Twitter statuses seeing how fond the Woolley Stannoth is of posting bare Twitter links.

Link Tools is the rebranding of the plugin I originally introduced to the forum as the Duplicate link warner.

I don't see the preview in forum post preview mode, just the link.

Yes, that's expected. It only shows up after the post is submitted. I might be able to get it working with preview mode, but so far have lacked the motivation.

That's ok Laird, I was just finding out what to expect. Thanks for your work on this, I'm grateful.

Elsewhere, @Laird said,

That reminds me of some sort of coding nightmare I had. Years ago, on a website I was running for a local club, I hand-crafted the code to generate a scrolling list of thumbnail images with titles, and a video viewer, given a specific youtube playlist. It worked beautifully for about three years. One day it just stopped working. On investigation I found youtube had completely replaced their API and requirements. I never bothered to fix it, the site eventually became abandoned. Such is life. Wink

Thank you for this, though I’m not certain at this point what I can now do.  Big Grin

In fact I have found it rather frustrating posting Twitter links here up until now, but (in my ignorance) it was all I had. I assume that the links I post will now expand automatically a little and make it easier to see what they’re about.

Thanks again for all your efforts here Laird, sometimes you must think that they are taken for granted when I abuse you? I think I am able to simultaneously slag parts of ‘Laird’, while recognising the great work you do and simply your presence. Rest assured I remain grateful throughout. Think of my ego rants as a sort of ‘lovers tiff’.
Oh my God, I hate all this.   Surprise

Nightmares like that are why I try to minimise dependencies as much as possible - not that you had any choice in your scenario. Your philosophical response might be the best one!

Exactly - if all goes well with the code.

Not to worry, I've never taken our conflicts as abuse on your part - disagreements are simply par for the course on boards like this. The affirmation of your appreciation is nice to hear. "Lovers' tiffs" I'm not so sure about though. Surprise

Today I found the youtube preview was expanding when I really would have preferred a simple text link. I ended up removing the link and just leaving the text, as I couldn't find how to disable the functionality.

There should be a "Disable Link Previews" checkbox in Full Edit mode, just below "Disable Smilies".
