Unfortunately, the host doesn't do a very good job, mainly because Parnia isn't given enough time, even to properly finish an anecdote he was recollecting about his colleague, Dr Richard Mansfield (and a patient of his that described events that occurred whilst he was dead)
So, I wondered if I should or shouldn't post it and I thought...maybe it's better than nothing for the time being.
Even with the unfortunate interruptions, lots of new and interesting information was conveyed during the interview. I hope it won't be long before both parties will be able to get together again to further discuss aspects of the experience. If the interviewer or his team is on the job, I expect we'll hear more from him and Parnia shortly.

Typical responses from mainstream neurologists such as Adrian Owen were...(summary) consciousness is produced by the brain and that's it, anything else is BS.
(Owen) “If you take that organ away or kill that organ or that organ dies, you cannot be conscious.”
Seeing this reminded me of a post in a NDE group I saw somebody concerned about their "atheist" friend make. They were concerned by the fact that this friend thought NDEs were just cases of sleep paralysis. In their case, the person just sounds really naive.
The above statement from Owen on the other hand is just plain ignorance in my opinion

Yes, that would be an additional issue. My original point was that the quality of the reporting was less than adequate. It was completely misleading and misrepresenting the actual findings.

Thanks tim!
The very fact that Parnia’s willing to give interviews is encouragement enough for me. Getting cut off at the end is disrespectful to a man like Parnia, but it’s more than acceptable nowadays. At least he got some airtime.
I'm sure you know, Typoz it's a complete distortion of what Parnia is trying to convey. But the notion that "the mind" can continue to exist without the brain seems to be so unthinkable (pardon the pun) that these kind of statements will appear ad infinitum. Parnia wants to bring what used to be regarded as the territory of the supernatural, into the realm of science (what happens to consciousness when we die) And why shouldn't he? (Millions of ordinary people all over the world are consistently reporting this phenomenon, so medicine (science) is going to have to come to terms with it)
To academia/the scientific Institutions, it's a disaster. They fear the return of the influence of religion and superstition that was consigned to the dustbin hundreds of years ago. Adrian Owen has probably never even looked at the literature because he "knows" he doesn't need to. Those things can't happen, period...and yet they do happen all the time, so we're at a funny stage. Parnia has to very careful because if he gets the irrefutable evidence, he's effectively holding dynamite in his hands.
What will be the consequences of "proving" that consciousness continues, that life goes on ? Certainly it will have huge implications for how we conduct our lives. Hope that doesn't sound like a lecture to anyone, apologies if it does.
How can people brought back from death after cardiac arrest report having experienced lucid and vivid memories and recollections without a functioning brain? The study of near-death experiences is challenging the idea our consciousness fades to black when our body expires

Quote:Parnia, now a critical care and resuscitation specialist at New York’s NYU Langone Medical Center, believes human consciousness may continue after our heart stops beating for some undetermined period of time.
Evidence from AWARE and other studies, he says, raises the possibility that the mind or consciousness — the psyche, the “self,” the thing that “makes me Sam” and that makes us uniquely who we are — may not originate in the brain and may be a separate, undiscovered scientific entity, similar in nature to the electromagnetic waves that can carry sound and pictures. Modern science simply lacks the tools to show it. When we die, that entity we call consciousness or the self doesn’t necessarily become “immediately annihilated,” Parnia believes.
p.s. I noticed this article as I was using newspaper to wrap food for compost!

"We will be officially launching a the NYU Critical Care and Resuscitation Reserach Program in June. As we approach this, I will be providing information on our projects, including the AWAreness during REsuscitation (AWARE) II study. Thank you for all those with an interest...."
Interesting, isn't it? I wonder what kind of information he is gonna give out.
