Seeing this reminded me of a post in a NDE group I saw somebody concerned about their "atheist" friend make. They were concerned by the fact that this friend thought NDEs were just cases of sleep paralysis. In their case, the person just sounds really naive.
The above statement from Owen on the other hand is just plain ignorance in my opinion

Yes, that would be an additional issue. My original point was that the quality of the reporting was less than adequate. It was completely misleading and misrepresenting the actual findings.

The very fact that Parnia’s willing to give interviews is encouragement enough for me. Getting cut off at the end is disrespectful to a man like Parnia, but it’s more than acceptable nowadays. At least he got some airtime.
I'm sure you know, Typoz it's a complete distortion of what Parnia is trying to convey. But the notion that "the mind" can continue to exist without the brain seems to be so unthinkable (pardon the pun) that these kind of statements will appear ad infinitum. Parnia wants to bring what used to be regarded as the territory of the supernatural, into the realm of science (what happens to consciousness when we die) And why shouldn't he? (Millions of ordinary people all over the world are consistently reporting this phenomenon, so medicine (science) is going to have to come to terms with it)
To academia/the scientific Institutions, it's a disaster. They fear the return of the influence of religion and superstition that was consigned to the dustbin hundreds of years ago. Adrian Owen has probably never even looked at the literature because he "knows" he doesn't need to. Those things can't happen, period...and yet they do happen all the time, so we're at a funny stage. Parnia has to very careful because if he gets the irrefutable evidence, he's effectively holding dynamite in his hands.
What will be the consequences of "proving" that consciousness continues, that life goes on ? Certainly it will have huge implications for how we conduct our lives. Hope that doesn't sound like a lecture to anyone, apologies if it does.
