You’ve probably seen this video but it was new to me and I thought it was very interesting. Pim Van Lommel - it’s about 14 mins.

Hi all, i've find this part of a TV program/documentary with Sam Parnia in it. The good doctor gets interviewed by Morgan Freeman, and the whole program is dubbed in Italian. I'll give you a summary of it:

"Morgan states that he has traveled around the world looking for how many different religions answer the question of life after death, but then says he is back in New York to take a look at how science is beginning to study the possibility of an afterlife.

He then meets with Dr. Parnia, and references his previous and vast work on this field. Sam then proceeds to explain the "usual" NDE effects with, peace, joy, meeting dead relatives and the light. He says that <we are now starting to understand that we have a universal death experience, and most of us will have it when our time comes>.

Doctor Parnia then states that death is a long process into which the cells of the body get destroyed, that can take hours or days. During this time there is a time window that allows for the medics to bring the person back to life.

Morgan ask for scientific evidence or proof of the souls, Parnia gives his usual speech about the soul being consciousness, psyche, self - what makes you really you - and he adds that, by this time, we have proof that this part of self doesn't disappear after death and survives for <at least some time>.

Morgan asks <really?> a bit surprised, and Parnia repeats that consciousness is there for at least an amount of time after brain activity has stopped and the person is effectively dead. The two then share cordial goodbyes."

I have found the interview interesting because Parnia seems to talk clearly that, at least for him, consciousness doesn't get destroyed at the moment of death. He sounds like sure of it, but maybe the Italian dubbing mistranslated his word or put more emphasis on them, is there a way to view the original?

Thanks for that. I've seen most of the Parnia interviews, but wasn't aware of one with Morgan Freeman.

As for what Parnia said, that sounds very consistent with his recent statements. Some years ago he was more cautious, his public statements have shifted along with the progress of the studies. He is still cautious, at least in public statements, he doesn't yet talk about long-term survival of consciousness. Perhaps given the type of research he does, the long term outcome is not possible to discover?

Well surely he can't state that consciousness is going to be there forever, he is neither religious nor a medium. Still, his increase in confidence makes me think that his studies are going on rather well.

I'm not sure, but I'm guessing this is an extract from the National Geographic series "The Story of God". This is a long-running show, it may have been filmed anytime from 2015 to 2017 - I guess. At any rate I don't think it gives us a view in current status of the AWARE II study, it is too old for that.

Some of the many episodes are available on youtube, but due to copyright restrictions, most of it is not - though one can pay to view.

Well, the biggest hint at his work going at least decent was this article I think: https://nationalpost.com/news/canada/lif...brain-dies

He sounds pretty sure of his standings and is dated april 2019, so AWARE II was already underway for good.

Very good, he seems o use the exact same words spoken in the italian dubbing. Really sounds pretty sure of what he is saying.

That's quite a long article, it is well-written, though it covers a lot of background material which is probably familiar to many of us.

I did appreciate this:
Quote:Parnia says he’s keeping an open mind. He cringes at recent headlines claiming, “When you die you actually KNOW you’re dead because your brain still works for a while.”
It points to a serious issue, that of misreporting and misrepresentation of the research. I'd like to consider it mere carelessness but I'm not sure whether the poor-quality news articles may not be deliberate.

I'm pretty sure I posted the clip you're looking for quite some time ago. It is quite a remarkable statement from Parnia but it obviously doesn't mean anything because although Parnia actually does the research, sceptics such as Malf, Steve and Linda know better.
