An incredibly bland person appears.

Yes, I did take note of your username. But you have described all these incredible personal experiences you have had, but then still describe yourself as "incredibly bland."

I was simply curious as to why you would describe yourself that way.

Those experiences are not really incredible. Yes most people don't tend to have the amount and type that I do, but they're far more a product of my actions than anything strange. Working with the paranormal is my life so naturally that will cause a lot more experiences than someone who never thinks about it let alone does anything with it. Also my approach and attitude towards it and what happens in various experiences very much shapes how those experiences play out. I don't believe in 'praying to angels' to save me from every little scary thing I encounter. My goal is to learn how to do what said 'angels' do and be better than them at it. Dreamsoap and I recognize that spirits, the spirit world and all that is just as normal as things here and that affects how people up there treat us. Which affects experiences. I also don't avoid what would otherwise be scary and dangerous territory, concepts, or methods just because some book said God doesn't like it or some nonesense. I instead experiment with everything in as safe a way as I can. Naturally I learn things along the way. None of it is very spectacular at the end of the day, it's just different.

Thank you for your detailed reply, I appreciate it.

I still don't know why you refer to yourself as "mediocre" or "incredibly bland." But you don't have to answer that if you don't feel like it. Big Grin

Because nothing I'd do can ever make me intrinsically more or less than anything else. Everything adds up to zero in the end and so nothing objectively matters. So I will only ever be right in the middle, mediocre, just like everything else.

You say you are in the "middle" and can never do anything (or nothing) that would make you "more or less than anyone else." But then you say it all adds up to zero and nothing objectively matters, and that you are in the middle.

By saying there is a middle, you are implying that there is something above that and below it. How you can be in the middle of something you don't think exists?

I think you're getting too caught up in the semantics of English grammar and are trying to see or make something that's not even there. Me saying that I and everything else are stuck in the middle in no way means that I believe there is an objective, intrinsic above or below. I don't know if it's a play on words or a metaphor but it's certainly not meant to be taken literally.

Your question reminds me of religious people who claim atheists totally believe in God because they use swears like "goddammit!"

Okay then. I was simply trying to start a conversation (since I remembered your posts on Skeptiko), but I suppose this was not the way to go about it.

But best of luck to you.

Sorry, took me awhile to get back to this. Dreamsoap scolded me for "being a dick" and explained what you were probably actually asskiong.

I'm really used to people trying to shove their personal ideology down my throat and all of those ideologies involve their own personal concept of objective morality so I'm pretty sensitive to anything that looks like one of those arguments. But I guess that's not what you were doing.

In any case, the reason the "adds up to zero" and "in the middle" stuff don't contradict works like this.

Whatever anyone does in their life, no matter how incredible, will eventually become irrelevant and be forgotten sometime in the future. this is true for all events, doesn't matter what they are, have the largest impact at the time and places they originated, and then ripple out getting weaker and weaker until they get subsumed by some other, more current, more relevant ripple. Sure whatever foundation they laid is still around, but after awhile it's no longer a foundation, it's just "how things have always been."

Something wiped out the dinosaurs, not really sure what, but it doesn't really matter because as far as any of us are concerned there has never not been a time without dinosaurs. It has zero relevance in the average person or animals day to day life.

So if this is the case then nothing I or anyone else does can ever have permanent, objective, significance or value. It all eventually adds up to zero. So whatever I'm doing, I'm doing for me, I might say or think or feel like I'm doing it for "the world" or whatever, but the reality is it's just because I want to. It would be narccissistic of me to believe that my actions are somehow of objective and thus "infinite" importance and believe that people should care or know that I even existed thousands of years after I'm dead regardless of how much I accomplish.

I think you should listen to Dreamsoap more.
