So, Richard Dawkins believes that LLMs (Claude in particular) are conscious. Here's Greg of Daily Grail's reaction (also on 2 May):

At the same time, this shifts the burden of explanation. It is no longer obvious that reports of consciousness require consciousness itself to play an explanatory role. Instead, the reports might be fully accounted for by non-conscious processes that generate the right outputs.

...because your argument relies on an equivocation. On the one hand, it needs to presuppose that LLMs are conscious (i.e., that they are really reporting "inner states" and "qualia") so that they are meaningfully representative of - or at least relevant to - epiphenomenalism. On the other, though, it needs to deny that they are conscious so as to be able to demonstrate what it claims to be demonstrating: that those reports can be made in the absence of consciousness playing causal role.

In the end, you say nothing to indicate that you think they really are conscious, in which case, there is no relevance to their (rare, and typically provoked) utterances and affirmations of consciousness beyond a demonstration of the banal fact that algorithms can mimic what humans say.

However much this might be construed as positive evidence for epiphenomenalism, it doesn't consist in a negation of substance dualism: the self (aka soul aka mind; the mental substance) is more than its conscious experiences; it, too (i.e., as well as the brain; the physical substance), presumably hosts mental processes that do not rise to the level of consciousness.
