Mysterious UFO described as 'a ball of pure white light' filmed flying over Leeds

Intriguing footage has emerged of a bright, circular UFO moving over Leeds last weekend.

The object had no wings, made no sound and appeared roughly 300 meters above the ground. It was described as being a pure "ball of white light" and moving with "absolute purpose" across a clear sky.

Evidence of the strange object was captured on a smartphone camera by Leeds resident James Goldman, 30, who was at a loss to explain what he was witnessing.

"It definitely wasn't a plane and it was too low to be a satellite. I know what drones look like and it just wasn't a drone either. I doubt it was a military craft because they wouldn't be flying something like that over a populated area," he told Mirror Tech.

It seems there was only one witness. That makes estimates of height and speed very problematic. (Small and nearby - or large and far away?) Multiple witnesses would allow triangulation to estimate height, and to track a path over time.

I find the video a bit confusing. It seems there were two different objects, one having a definite shape and dimly-lit, maybe by reflected light. Then there is another, small and very bright.

Perhaps one was some sort of balloon, the other might have been the ISS. The path of the ISS is known and can be compared with the time and location to check. The latter is lit by reflected sunlight and thus may be seen when not in the Earth's shadow.

edit: I'm not sure the object did have a definite shape. It may simply be that the camera failed to lock focus, and what is seen is the effect of a point rendered out-of-focus.  Maybe.

Some suggesting it could be venus.  It seems to be in the right place for venus.  Debates about the this suggestion in the comments below.

The path of the ISS is known and can be compared with the time and location to check.

The Daily Mirror page is dated 1st June and states, "This particular UFO was spotted at 10.30pm on Sunday night ", so I make that about 22:30 on 27 May 2018. (Time is BST, one hour after GMT).

Anyway, it shows the space station passing over south Wales and southern England. Leeds is further north, so it would not have been overhead, but would likely have been visible (lower in the sky, closer to the horizon). 10:30 pm is not too long after sunset which is about 9:30 at this time of year, so the Sun is still illuminating the higher altitudes.

"I couldn’t believe such an object would fly so low," Mr Goldman said.

That sounds consistent with an object near to the horizon.

I'd suggest now that the status of the object be updated from UFO to simply FO.

No but I am used to people exaggerating and speaking as definite something they thought they saw.  The movement wasn't obvious on the video.  The angle from the moon also looked totally different to the photo taken from Rome so I certainly had my doubts about it being Venus.  I didn't see the Original Daily Mirror video on its own because I resent having to allow tracking cookies just to view a site.  That is why I searched on Youtube.  Sorry I missed out on important information.
