Trialling avatars in likers list

10 Replies, 1872 Views

Hey guys,

We've added a new feature to the Thank you/Like System plugin which supports displaying avatar images rather than usernames in the list of likers at the bottom of each post.

I'm giving it a trial on our forum so you can see what it looks like and say whether you think we should keep it or revert to usernames.

My sense is that we should revert to usernames, simply because too many members have not set an avatar for it to efficiently convey who they are without having to mouse over the image, but I'd be interested in your own views.
I wondered what was going on there, Laird LOL ! I thought my computer had developed a glitch. As you say, it doesn't quite look right when some members don't have a visible avatar.

Hehe. The gremlins got in.

Yep, I expect that that's going to be the consensus, but I'll leave it as it is for just a little longer so folks can experience something a little different and have their say.
There are avatars? Never seen any of those before today.
How do you mean? Never anywhere on the forum?

I guess I selected an option somewhere to hide avatars, signatures and so on. Yes, I know they exist but thankfully they convey no meaning to me.

However, I'm not intending to be serious, there is room for being relaxed over such matters. Let others decide which direction to go.

Oh, right, I see that setting in the user control panel options now. And I see the humour in your original post...

In any case, that's a second reason to revert to usernames: for those who have otherwise turned off the display of avatars, they have no meaning.

Yes, I should have added a smiley in that post. I don't feel strongly about this so I'm not really asking for it to be reverted.
As much as I like these faceless white-light figures shining their approval upon my posts I do think it gets a bit unwieldy.

I doubt I will remember which avatar belongs to who.  I much prefer to see usernames.  Besides, I keep changing mine so I don't know if everybody will keep up. LOL
