Great public lecture from Maldacena, one of a handful of top theoretical physicists living in the world today (different perspective on the doom of spacetime compared to Nima)

He briefly mentions Pennington's discovery at the end of his lecture, but has no time left to talk about it. Pennington's discovery really does open the door to allow the magic to happen.
We shall not cease from exploration
And the end of all our exploring 
Will be to arrive where we started
And know the place for the first time.

What this giant of theoretical physics said from time 25:53 (direct link above video) got absolutely zero response on here...
