I think the end of The Return marks Cooper's failure as a shaman for the second time around, but I don't think it's completely negative as the Wheel spins around again and he'll get another chance which is why it ends with Laura whispering in his ear.
"See you in 25 years" would be my guess for what she says.
*What an appropriate username for this thread!
Ha! I thought that myself. I had no idea when I created this username three years ago that I would be constantly reading about Doppelgangers as I obsessed on each episode of The Return. (BTW, when I picked that name for the SF, I just closed my eyes and let a word come to me, in this case Doppelganger, as I never reuse usernames on the Internet. Except, I suppose, for this forum after Skeptiko.)
I like your interpretation. But I have read many that are also good too. I'm trying to find time to watch the whole series, though I know that means I might not find any answers.
Is it possible, though, that Judy is the demiurge? My SO and I talked about that some, and then I did read someone's speculation that Judy is the demiurge of the gnostics.

Yeah there are lots of good theories. I like the syncs that people have noticed while watching 17 & 18 together, though I'm not on board with the "Cooper defeats Judy" interpretations.
I think it would be weird for Coop's time travel to be anything but a grave mistake, though at the same time I don't think Evil wins. Twin Peaks seems to be more about cycles and entering/escaping them than a narrative where Good/Evil win for all time.

I mean, Major Briggs's gigantic head floating through space whispering "Blue Rose" is such a wonderful image that I can believe they came up with it first, and only included an explanation of the phrase as an afterthought.
But maybe I'm wrong. Maybe there's a reason for everything - even Lucy's jacket being decorated with giant liquorice allsorts.
Watching the original run (OR), I always thought that Major Briggs was important and represented not only good, but also a spiritual side. He offered up a lot of information in the OR about the lodges, the role of UFOs (Project BLUE book), etc. And then there's t his scene with his son Bobby.
I thought this was an interesting tidbit on the music in TP, in case others haven't seen it. I also like the image of Lynch crying, "It's cosmic!"

Sad to see news of the death of Harry Dean Stanton. I'd been thinking how good he looked for 91.

Me too. He was one of my favorite character actors. Loved him in Twin Peaks: The Return, FWWM, Repo Man, Alien, Paris, Texas, etc, etc. He had some great scenes in the new TP.
The number of TP actors who passed away....it's not a "good" thing but it makes the think about how The Return had us revisit actors Hollywood often considers to be past their supposed "sell by" date. It's one of the more important artistic aspects of The Return.
Catherine Coulson's message to Hawk definitely resonated with me:
"You know about death, that it’s just a change, not an end. Hawk, it’s time. There’s some fear, some fear in letting go. Remember what I told you. I can’t say more over the phone but you know what I mean, from our talks, when we were able to speak face to face...
...Hawk, my log is turning gold. The wind is moaning. I’m dying. Good night, Hawk.”

I'd like to see this thread discussing some other popular TV fiction other than Twin Peaks !

But this is the Twin Peaks thread?
I mean there's also the What Are You Watching thread, but we could make a general fiction discussion thread?
I'd actually suggest a thread specific to a show otherwise I think things will get confusing?

Sci said " I really wish there would be more focus on another NDEr than Eben Alexander but I'll take what I can get when it comes to NDEs entering the public consciousness."
I was retaliating Sci (it was joke, not a very good one clearly). You posted the above statement in a thread which I started under the heading Dr Eben Alexander's new book. Was it not appropriate of me to post material from Alexander ? Please say yes or I'll have to start dancing myself to death with bewilderment.....
