Sigils, Seals, tattoos & magical body mods

The established seals, sigils, and veves are tapped into specific existing currents. That said, not everyone that uses them considers that they are tapping into outright big-S Spirits, i.e., independent entities. Some view the spirits they connect to as archetypes, some as specific subsets of mind, some as particular ‘job descriptions’ within the Field. I’m open about all of this, because I’m super aware that while I perceive these phenomena in one way, it’s far from the only way. I also worked with these phenomena when I thought very differently about them, and also had solid contacts & results from the work. As someone once said, ‘truth is a real thing, but objectivity is not’ (I’m crediting Arkady Martine, but that may be wrong).

Permanence. What do think think about this concept? Is a tattoo or a scar any more permanent, really, than any other step into relationship with someone be that human, ex-human, or Other? I know lots of folks with the names of their first, second, or third love tattooed on them who are not in relationship with that person (ask Johnny Depp about Wynona Forever). So while there is a lasting ink/scar and pain=seriousness bond, is this something that means ‘forever yours’? Or is it like adding their number to your speed-dial and building a skin-talisman?

I think we probably started tattooing as a way to link ourselves to power. I do see potential issues with consciously trying to bind ourselves to power(s) that we aren’t committed to learning from/with and willing to ride out the storms that may come. There is very likely a difference between an NFL tat and My Little Pony destroying Manhattan like Godzilla and getting a Helm of Awe or veve for Legba or getting a sigil that you made meaning ‘I am f__king awesome’. But I’m pretty sure I can’t tell you which one is more powerful (or dangerous) for you.
