Peter Fenwick on Learning from blind alleys

I am not quite sure where this video really belongs, but "Philosophical Discussions" might capture the gist of its spirit of critical thinking based on life experiences.

In this video, Peter mainly relates four key experiences: his hypnotising of a friend as a teenager, his seeking for the supposed guru Divine Mother to cure his epileptic patients, his experiments with a man who purported to be able to travel out of body and to be able to stay awake all night without sleep, and his encounter with a man who is the closest to a shaman that Peter thinks he has ever met.

From these experiences, Peter draws various lessons, including (and these are direct quotes from the video):

"I learnt a lot from Divine Mother, and that is to be much more careful about what you do with other people, and try and make sure as much as we can that there's good evidence that people who say they can do things can."

and, re the third experience:

"And what that tells me is that you can't always believe what people say and it's best to have objective evidence if you can."

A very interesting video full of stories and the lessons that can be drawn from them...
