Quote:There's no such thing as selfless

I disagree strongly on this, on earth it might be true, but I suspect that selfless beings do exist, maybe not 100% selfless though, I’d give you that. But selfless enough as to make it look like 100%.
This is purely an intuition and not much logic!  Smile

What is interesting from some NDE reports is how all the scoring and valuation schemes we use on Earth are contrasted with other ways of considering the worth. For example a person may be shown an overview of their life, with the highlights featured, the points or events which we consider our finest moments. Then there might be a second view of the same life, where other moments or events are highlighted. These tend to be moments where we have impacted on the lives of others. Sometimes among these, the incidents and actions pointed out as most valued, may be apparently small things which we have forgotten. If we did something beneficial, it was not in order to score points or benefit ourselves, but where we barely noticed ourselves at the time. We tend to forget these things, since they don't play a part in our own life, but are highlighted in the review because of the impact it has on someone else, or something else. There was one example I remember where someone stopped briefly to water a plant, while fetching water for the family.

I suppose how persuasive this may be depends on how much you are persuaded by NDEs, are they what actually happens or the way a dying brain comforts it’s ‘self’.

I can say that I am relatively persuaded by the positive things highlighted in your post, but I leave room for other possibilities.

I suppose my aim isn't to persuade anyone, especially not myself. What I do is gather snippets of ideas from here and there, and piece them together like the segments of an orange. I'm at the centre, drawing on various segments from time to time. But this way of piecing things together allows additional segments to be squeezed in, and some of the other parts may become narrower, reduced in significance or pushed out completely. Still included as part of my orange are the totally materialistic, chemical-based worldview. It coexists alongside all the other facets. Over a longer timescale these various ideas coexisting come to settle in some sort of temporary equilibrium, representing how I view the world today. But how I viewed the world yesterday, or how I will view it tomorrow may be different.
