Why are you surprised? Don't most proponents believe that sceptics are people whose minds are already made up, and who aren't willing to change their opinions whatever evidence they're presented with?

That's not what the article's about. It's about how all of us some more than others hold to wrong ideas even in the face of facts. For examples: rockets don't work in a vacuum or the Earth is flat.

To answer your question specifically why I'm surprised because it's damning. I am so because Stan has spent much time questioning the utility of vaccines in the face of over 200 years of factual evidences that vaccinations work. Stan is representative of persons the article describes. That's what surprised me.

Just precisely how much time have you put into researching vaccines Steve?
Just taking one example, I’ve been reading a lot about Andrew Wakefield, and simply looking at the facts, the actual Lancet paper, the high court appeal of his co-writer, and what experience people have of Brian Deer etc, I would say a great injustice has been done. 

The article reinforces my thinking that propaganda will have a huge effect on people’s opinion, so it’s no surprise that he’s fighting an uphill battle.

As Chris has said, Sceptic’s seem to have everything sorted, while proponents appear not to pin things down.
