Freud as a psychical researcher

I found that article quite interesting and informative, as I had only the vaguest ideas about Freud's attitude to the paranormal. Evidently he became convinced of the reality of telepathy, but mainly on the evidence of the rather poorly controlled experiments of Gilbert Murray. Freud believed he had replicated Murray's results, though without reporting in sufficient detail for the quality of the replication to be clear. Subsequently, his disciples were embarrassed by his belief in the paranormal, but there is a suggestion that the free response aspect of the Maimonides dream studies reflected Montague Ullman's background as a psychoanalyst.

Among other things it refers to Jung's opinion that the credit for the first scientific description of the unconscious should go to Frederic Myers, one of the founders of the SPR, and not to Freud.
