Caduto - Long Time Lurker

Hey Everyone,

I have been lurking since before the split from Skeptiko and made a single post here a long time ago but I want to start looking into the resources more and look forward to providing my input in future discussions.

I know that activity has slowed but this forum has helped me a ton through the years with resources and a perspective outside of those around me so I want to try and contribute.

To keep it high level my normal social circles are primarily skeptics and do not really care to look into these topics to have discussions about them.

Topics being primarily NDEs and Consciousness but open to most areas that are discussed here

I know that the skeptic discussion has died down a bit but I am still excited to hear everyones takes and see how mine differ on the topics I mentioned.

Regarding normal social circles, obviously we don't have a shared real-world background so our experiences will differ. Years ago I wanted to talk about all sorts of unconventional ideas with friends, these days I don't have a need to do so but it can be nice to have a conversation or even discussion in the real world which extends beyond the mundane.

I've actually been surprised, quite dramatically at times how far people may be positioned in either an extreme sceptic or strong proponent position. The sceptical one caught me by surprise recently, someone I don't know well but I considered a caring and easy-going person out of the blue posted some extreme skeptic views on social media. It was quite a shock.

But on the positive side, I was chatting to someone who I'd known slightly for a couple of years, and after first asking me how I felt about unexplained stuff, then opened up and shared some insights into her own life which were, I don't know how to phrase it without going into detail, describing actual experiences she'd had which went well beyond what I could ever have imagined. And no, she wasn't trying to shock or impress me, more looking for a listening ear.

In that sense, among my social circle I'm willing to be surprised and in my case the positive was far more enriching and significant than the dismissiveness of the sceptic.
