I'm going to the cinema to watch Blade Runner 2049 on Thursday evening so no spoilers, please. If it is half as good as the original, I'll be satisfied.

Good for you. I am jealous because I want to see it, but I don't have a babysitter for my young kids. The original Blade Runner is one of my favorites.

I'm usually not a fan of sequels, but this one looked particularly good for at least the visuals.

After watching, perhaps you could give a short review? I hate trailers and reviews that give everything away! Smile

I also noticed the other day that Amazon (or was it Hulu?) made an anthology show based on Philip K Dick stories! Confused

It was made by Channel 4 in the UK, and Amazon bought the US rights.

I watched the first couple of episodes. I thought the first was quite good, but the second was a bit underwhelming.

Perhaps this review might suit you. I read it and I was impressed enough to want to see the movie. Like you, I detest spoilers and I'm also wary of sequels but nothing about this review put me off.

And I didn't even make it to the end of the third.
During my lounge time, I'm catching up on a bundle of Ken Burns documentaries available on Netflix. I started with "The West", progressed to "The Roosevelts" and have now, belatedly, returned to the first (in historical terms), namely "The Civil War". These provide a foreigner like me a wonderful insight into the American culture, the politics and the collective psyche. They also clear up misconceptions I have carried for years, such as the vague idea that Theodore was the uncle or even father of Franklin. I now know better and imagine my surprise to find out that Theodore was actually Elanore's uncle, not Franklin's. Fascinating to be reminded that, until FDR, the more progressive party was that of Abraham Lincoln (and Teddy R), the Republicans.
Blade Runner 2049 in IMAX

Worth it, such an incredible visual/auditory experience.

Okay, thank you. I do want to know more but I don't want a bunch of spoilers.

Oh, I see! The trailer was so short (it was an ad on a YouTube video), I didn't realize it was UK.

Yes, that's right, it was Amazon. I thought it was from Amazon Studios and wondered if it was their answer to Black Mirror or something.

And, yes, I realize that Black Mirror is also UK and Channel 4 before Netflix picked it up. For some reason, I had the original show in my Netflix queue for a long time before I randomly decided to watch it. However, I chose to watch the first episode, "National Anthem," about five days before the Cameron #piggate affair. That gave me a good laugh over a mild synchronicity.

As I don't have a TV, I'd never even heard of Black Mirror. But I gather the Philip K. Dick is in a sense Channel 4's replacement for Black Mirror.

By the way, don't let my opinion put you off giving it a try. They are obviously high-budget productions and well made, with big names in the cast. Judging from online reviews other people seem to like them. But they don't do much for me.
